Shoutcast website audio player or encoder issues?

I can't post on the shoutcast board for some reason so.... I figured I would ask the question here. Shoutcast has recently put a embedded player on their website. I run my stream at 96/44 but the quality is terrible on their player compared to other stations with the same settings. If I listen using Winamp the audio is fine (MP3PRO), also using windows media player we get CD quality. The audio quality is only poor on their website player? I am using SAM Simplecast to encode my stream. I'm wondering if another encoder would be better. Also I have tried to find a program that would allow us to track windows media player listener statistics, but have had no luck. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I just listened to your stream for a second, through the Shoutcast player on their site. It sounded just fine to me.

As for your question on encoders, you might look at Edcast as an alternative.

I am assuming you want listener counts for a WMA stream. If your stream host has Media Point Manager (MPM) installed, you can use the SAM Statistic Relays for listener counts.

The Shoutcast website player doesn't support mp3PRO, so of course it's not going to sound as good as a player that does support it. Those other stations with the same settings may be running 96/44 with plain mp3. Not a good idea. If you really want to cover all players with a "CD Quality" sound you'll have to go to 128kbps/44kHz.

Your Shoutcast server will show all listeners, no matter what player they're using. The log will show which player each uses, although sometimes the log entry is a bit cryptic.

BTW, nice music. I'm listening with Winamp and the Thompson mp3PRO plug-in.

That is correct, the nullsoft team didn't write their own flash player so it does not support anything except mp3 and it uses a cheat (I implemented a similar player and ditched it because of issues) to get around Flash's inability to natively play mp3 streams (not files). Also beware of using anything but standard sampling rates (22khz 44.1khz) because 48, 32 and 16 will all cause chipmunking.
