Show idea for AM Tampa Bay

Just an idea for AM Tampa Bay to do during the second week of January during Pam Iorio's final week in office. The show would have one week-long topic, entitled "What has Pam Iorio done for you?"

Jack Harris and Tedd Webb would be live and remote for the entire week, broadcasting from various neighborhoods in Tampa and asking residents as they walk by how Pam Iorio has worked to improve their community.

On Monday they would broadcast from the Silver Dollar Foods convenience store on North 40th, on Tuesday they would broadcast from the slums behind University Mall on 22nd, on Wednesday from the intersection of Nebraska and Busch, on Thursday from in front of the Dutch Motel on Hillsborough Ave, and on Friday from the ghetto apartment complex where that guy who killed the two Tampa police officers lived.

Each day, Jack and Tedd would ask the residents of those neighborhoods how much of an impact Mayor Pam, who has spent so many taxpayer dollars on museums and new parks, has helped to improve their impoverished neighborhoods. Jack and Tedd would also try to interview Pam to ask her personally why she focused so much money on new museums and parks and cutting benefits for police and firefighters instead of trying to clean up slum neighborhoods and making our police/firemen the highest paid in the state.

I'd ask CC what WFLA has done for the community other than basically reguritate the same nationally syndicated talk shows heard on WRVA or 104.7 in Pittsburgh? Maybe if WFLA had done some real investigative programming with local origination, these issues could be further along. Did Dick Greco reduce crime in these places? If Pam Iorio had not presided over these projects and focused on the named issues, she would have been accussed of pandering to the inner city and ignoring our Tampa's bid for greatness.

ummm how about getting rid of the tired old hosts for a real change?

Those are good ideas, but they would need a young Geraldo type to do it. I doubt WFLA has the type of reputation to be welcome in those areas. Besides, this type of reporting is usually done by TV reporters or on the "internets". No offense and all ideology aside, but WFLA and its counterparts whether owned by CC, CBS, COX, Entercom, or anybody else are perceived as stodgy stations catering to older demos.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

OK. So now do as the nice lady asked...correct her. If she is wrong, I sure would like to know what is right because every letter she wrote seems right on point to me.

LOL! Great show idea! When I first moved here from Orlando, I did listen to AMTampa Bay (WFLA) in the mornings. After the initial excitement of the move had left, I began to notice I was beginning to sleep through alarms (radio setting). The AM Tampa Bay show was/is mediocre at best. However, when I HEARD "Ted Webb" snoring-yes, snoring-on-air, I figured now is about the time to switch...to "Mark in the morning" which was on WWBA. Alas, since Genesis could not meet Larsen's salary in negotiations, Larsen had to move on. I am not much for the WGUL line-up from 6-9 a.m. (Bennett), and now WWBA cans the two people whom carried the "Big Show." If AM Tampa Bay actually did a show like that, I would definitely switch back. Where can one go to get a "no-nonsense" approach to morning radio for LOCAL events, news, talk, and issues facing the Tampa Bay community?? P.S. YYou guys should hear what Iorio "promises" when she is on WTMP....hint, it isn't museums and art galleries, or even a river walk...

"Genesis could not meet Mark Larsen's salary in negotiations." That's hilarious. Word from the street is Larsen was paid nothing for 6-8 months except a percentage from spots HE sold until the day his Morning Magazine crashed and burned. (ratings show that happened years earlier) Was Genesis unable to meet the salary demands of Roger P. Schulman and Shayna Lance too? They were lucky to get $10 an hour. With a .04 share and bottom feeder programs Zig Ziglar couldn't sell commercials for WWBA's black hole. The station sucks, and that's that. Face facts.

Whether or not Pam Iorio has been good for Tampa is one issue. Whether radio can be the medium to do this story is another issue. I can see TV doing it, but I cannot envision any radio station in a market much smaller than Chicago having a news department capable of this.( Of course I am usually wrong)

How about "What Will Jack Harris Do"? Now that he won't be able to ride the coat tails of the Mayor anymore. Think for himself yet OKAY!! :p

He was a real old school Top 40 type jock on WRC along with Williard Scott. Found it on a tribute page.

Obviously, "Butters" hasn't been listening to Jack for very long...

That is as dumb as the people who don't listen to Rush talking about how he relies on having the Democrats in power for ratings.

You can do better than that.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!
