Re Reply 279 ^^^-- Soleil Moon Frye's "Punky Brewster" was cute, in a button-nose, Gidget sort of way. Her real-life travails, ie breast reduction surgery at age 15, books she authored and a gentle activist lifestyle seemed to generate as much interest as Punky's character did years earlier, though she continued playing supporting roles on TV.
The precocious Punky character, lovable as she was, arrived during a more sophisticated time, so it never claimed the longevity of a Shirley Temple, the on-screen product of much more innocent days.
