Showtime's 'Homeland' Renewed for Season Three

This was a given- as the ratings have been stellar (for a Showtime program anyway), and the Emmy win for Outstanding Drama Series.

A renewal for a much deserved show- that doesn't shy away from breakneck storytelling speed and remains topical without becoming political.

The best show on TV. Simple as that.

Certainly one of the best. Somebody above noted that Homeland is highly rated "for Showtime, in any case." Remember that with premium cable channels, if a critically acclaimed and well publicized original drama is driving consumers to subscribe to your premium channel, it's a win.

It's well known that subscriptions to premium cable channels wax and wane with the fortunes of their original dramas. It was reported that when The Sopranos ended, HBO lost hundreds of thousands of subscribers. That's why they always have these continuing series in development.

I said that and I certainly agree. I contemplated cancelling HBO and keeping Showtime because I don't watch much on HBO outside of "Real Time with Bill Maher".

I was already thinking if it would be in Showtime's best interest to air "Dexter" and "Homeland" at different points in the year, to spread out their fortune. Certainly the two do well together, but its food for thought, seeing as they've lost "Weeds" and their other original programming are not as big of draws for the channel.

'Shameless' is another excellent series on Showtime. It usually airs starting in January after Homeland ends. I never liked Dexter or Weeds.
