SHREVEPORT RDS

I was in NE Texas this weekend and was surprised to see that not a single station in Shreveport was running RDS. More surprising is that almost every Tyler/Texarkana/Lufkin station was running it - even KMHT in Marshall and KGAS in Carthage.

I know RDS is not something new, but I just recently acquired a radio which actually has the technology...hence me checking to see who was running and who wasn't.

Anyone know why Shreveport tends to be so...behind?

Well, at last check, the only S'port station running RDS *was* KMJJ. They're not pushing titles or anything...Just Radio Text with a static "99.7 KMJJ"

As far as Gap, Access 1, or other Cumeless stations, I don't know. Cost? You know everyone is cutting corners these days!

I wonder if there is more RDS in the East Texas / Tyler area because of that broadcast engineering services firm located there? In most cases I've seen the motivation to do RDS has started in the engineering departments, not the front offices.

The public station in Shreveport, 89.9 KDAQ, has call letters etc displayed and three channels of "HD Radio"

Ah, that's right! I'd forgotten about KDAQ running RDS and HD (cough) Radio.

I couldn't tell whether or not KDAQ was running RDS or not, as my radio is HD and automatically utilizes HD. KMJJ was no longer transmitting RDS.
