Shroom named new WEBN Music director

Pulling a shift and doing music director duties is not that uncommon. Maybe I'm missing something...what are his other duties?

Knowing CC, they probably have him taking out the trash, making coffee, and running errands for upper management, plus voice tracking for a dozen or so small market stations in their chain. The only thing that will help WEBN is new ownership but that's not likely to happen for awhile. It may or may not be uncommon, but saving a buck by eliminating jobs that are now done by the fewest people as possible is.

Add one more more duty to Shroom's job load. Remember the days when music director would be enough for one employee at a radio station?

Night DJ Jason “Shroom” Schumm has added the duties of music director at WEBN-FM (102.7) starting today. The position has been vacant since Dave Fritz was fired in August.
All of the MDs in the history of Z-93 from '84-'07 were also on-air. Not very uncommon. Now an off-air PD was common back in the day, and even to this day you can find one here and there, such as Q102 PD Patti Marshall. Brian Douglas is the MD and does an afternoon shift along with Laura Powell.

I'm wondering why is the position of MD needed since CC playlists are corporately selected and they waited as long as they have to select a replacement for Fritz?

Playlists are not all corporate based in every station in every market... Some stations do still have some local decision.

In stations with a local MD.. Corporate provides direction but local has input.

Who?

WEBN SUCKS and it has for the better part of 15 years now. What a disgrace that one of the longest running FM "Rock" stations is what it is today....

haven't listened to them in years. Good luck to this schmuck- he'll be out on the street in 6 months after CC does more layoffs before the end of the year.
