Guess you never heard of the annual Mario Lemieux celebrity golf charity thing.
All Shumway did was ask a legitimate question. I heard him on KDKA Tuesday morning with Larry explaining himself. He said he wouldn't ordinarily be assigned to that beat, because he's a news reporter not a sports reporter. But because the Steelers have become such a story, still being alive in the playoffs and all, there he was. He thinks Cowher's response could be explained by the fact he's not part of the inner circle, the regular sportsbeat press pool. I think that's reasonable.
Somebody HAD to ask about the thumb. Big Ben is the one who brought it up! He's said it hurts him and he can't throw more than 40 yards. If not Shumway then someone else, who may even have gotten a reasonable answer. Shumway doesn't deserve being compared to Thor, don't you think that's a bit much? Shumway is no agent provacateur, he's just some poor schmuck that was filling in for someone else asking a perfectly reasonable question.
Don't you wonder about Ben's thumb too? I know I do. I'm worried about who is throwing the rock in the last three critical games, you're not? The definition of a good reporter is one who asks the questions the audience would want answers to. Give the guy a break.
