Shumway or Thor Tolo

Let's lighten up a bit. Did any of you guys see the clip from today's Cowher press confrence? John Shumway pelleted Coach Cowher with questions about Big Bens thumbs. Did you notice Cowher's bottled anger? My question is this....whom do you think Coach Cowher was more angered at...John Shumway or years ago when Thor would throw darts at our beloved football guru?

Perhaps Cowher should keep his emotions in check better (after all, if you noticed it I'm sure others did too).

Shumway being at a sports press conference asking a stupid question like that is just KD trying to get some fluff stories to fill its boring 3 hour newscast.

"Breaking News! Big Ben's thumb bends!".

Perhaps Cowher should just stop the press conference or call stupid reporters on the stupid questions. A perfect answer to Shumway (who I always thought was a great reporter): "John, I'm surprised such an assanine question could come out of your mouth. You're a smart guy. Why would you ask such a dumb question?" And then, never answer the question.

Our sports teams really need better PR people. The teams and coaches should not only be accessible to the media, but they should also be more Pittsburgh oriented and accessible to the city. The PR people "guard" the biggies like McClatchy or Lemieux, and both of these guys SHOULD be able and willing to do all public appearances as requested. Instead, their PR department's nitwit frontline guy makes excuses as to why they cannot make an appearance (especially for charity, this sucks). Understandable if they are at an away game or something like that. Better people in the positions of public relations at all of our three sports teams are needed.

Bottom line. If you want to be well-liked, you must endear yourself to the city. Take a note from our Mayor-elect.

So they are supposed to do ALL of the requested public appearances? Do you have any idea how many requests are made? They would have no time for their families, or any other free time, if they had to fill all the requests. I guess you think Mario's a bum because he didn't go to some kid's birthday party, or McClatchy's an idiot for not making a free appearance at the Prickly Heat convention.

And why is John Shumway at Cowher's press conference? Shouldn't that be left to Pompeani, Alexander, and/or Steigerwald? I've noticed how KD has been using more of their non-sports reporters to do sports related stories. I guess they're better at getting to the real story, like how many times Big Ben farted today.

Actually, if Big Ben could do "Volare" like Newbomb Turk, that would be newsworthy.

Well, when you have 3 hours of news time to fill, you got to find something to start a rumor with. You can tell the regulars at the Cowher press conferences from the "once in a blue moon" types. Shumway just put himself in the latter.

LMAO ROTF....I just might pay to see that!

Not ALL the requests. Didn't think people would take that literally. But, they should be out way more than they are. And, they should be more available to the media.

Don't make generalizations about what I think ("I guess you think Mario's a bum because he didn't go to some kid's birthday party"). I think Mario's a bum because he aligns himself with Mark Madden and that's it. Mark Madden is a bum...Mario is one by association.

Mario and McClatchy should be seen and heard more on Pittsburgh radio, and at ALL the stations.

ALL the stations? Even BOB? Oh, that's right, I'm not supposed to take that literally.

And I guess Jack Ham, Ed Bouchette, Beano Cook, John Clayton, and a number of others are bums because they "align" themselves with Mark Madden.

Stop making asinine staements, and I'll stop making generalizations.

Seems to me you are making both!

Nobody is more aligned with Mark Madden than Mario.

Mr. Music

Not true. Mark Madden's ego is more closely aligned with Mark Madden. Oh, and the strippers.

Mark Madden is a hack. F you Mark. Are you still wondering why 970 hasn't come calling for you? It's because you SUCK.

Guess you never heard of the annual Mario Lemieux celebrity golf charity thing.

All Shumway did was ask a legitimate question. I heard him on KDKA Tuesday morning with Larry explaining himself. He said he wouldn't ordinarily be assigned to that beat, because he's a news reporter not a sports reporter. But because the Steelers have become such a story, still being alive in the playoffs and all, there he was. He thinks Cowher's response could be explained by the fact he's not part of the inner circle, the regular sportsbeat press pool. I think that's reasonable.

Somebody HAD to ask about the thumb. Big Ben is the one who brought it up! He's said it hurts him and he can't throw more than 40 yards. If not Shumway then someone else, who may even have gotten a reasonable answer. Shumway doesn't deserve being compared to Thor, don't you think that's a bit much? Shumway is no agent provacateur, he's just some poor schmuck that was filling in for someone else asking a perfectly reasonable question.

Don't you wonder about Ben's thumb too? I know I do. I'm worried about who is throwing the rock in the last three critical games, you're not? The definition of a good reporter is one who asks the questions the audience would want answers to. Give the guy a break.

Mario only is accessable when it benefits MARIO. His tournament is a prime example of that.

Everything else you say, I agree with. Perhaps that should be directed at trefdawg, since he started the thread and compared, or at least, threw out the comparison of Shumway and Tolo.

Sure, Shumway went to get a news story, as they have to fill those three boring filled hours of news they throw on everyday.

I hope someone gives me a Christmas gift that allows me to see people on the radio. Must be that Thor Tolo "theatre of the mind" thing..

At least Madden doesn't use the nickname "Bury my cöck in her".

Talk about an ego!

I probably should read over what I write before I post, huh?

I meant to say that both of these guys should be seen more (by the TV stations) and heard more on ALL the radio stations, and not just the selected sports am station.
