Shut up & rock? LOL

This is hysterical. :D Funny how YSP are doing an entire weekend on it.And MMR tried this a few years back & failed miserably.Refresh me please but I think that little collage station WLVR have been telling their listeners to shut up & rock for a fair while now.Back to the drawing boards ZZO.

MMR's got the block partys going on, YSP got the whole "Shut Up And Rock" thing going....

what does ZZO have going on? 3 modern tracks instead of 2 mixed in with 30 of the same classics instead of 20 and in a different order for a change? oh, and lets throw in 8 commercial cuts instead of 12. their probably outdoing themselves. "Why doesnt ZZO play 3 hours of commercial free rock?" ok seriously now, is ZZO doing anything special.

is the only good rock station in the Valley doing anything? for those ZZO fans who like hearing the same 20 songs over and over and over again, im talking about 107.1.

man do i love making fun of zzo

It's all garbage to me. Rock is dead! I listen to WGPA! They play a lot of big band music and some older pop/rock. They've become much more consistent.

More people listen to WGPA than you realize. Who wants to hear Bobby Gunther Walsh stumble through his show with Lou Holzman? "hmmmm Lou what should we do next.?"

I think WGPA needs it's own forum. All the fanboys can stroke themselves there instead of posting here. This is supposed to be where people who care about real radio come for info. WGPA is JV at best, and absolutely doesn't matter to anyone other than those who work or have worked there.

Every single thread in this forum somehow comes back to WGPA. It's like six degrees of Jolly Joe, instead of Kevin Bacon.

I'm guessing the next thread will be about someone working at the Bethlehem Parking Garage who was listening to GPA the other day.

Angry defense of WGPA in 3...2...1...

Saga's WMLL in Manchester NH has been using the "shut up and rock" positioner for a while now and is making progress against the heritage rocker in the market WGIR. The success or failure of a station hinges on many more things than a slogan, and MMR seems (to me a least) to have lost its way for quite a while now.

MMR has not been good since the days of Michael Tearson, Pierre Robert, and Joe Bonadonna. Those were the glory days! As far as WZZO is concerned they have not been anywhere near good since Gene Romano, Rick Strauss, Kim Douglas, and Todd Heft. Also, weekender Paul Tipa!

That's why this forum has very little posting in it. I don't come around much because it's the same old talk about WGPA and it's coming from people who work there and their three listeners that are actually literate enough to work a computer. The only time we need to hear about GPA is when Timmer kills another guy with his van. If someone wants to talk about WGPA, let's talk about how Timmer was able to purchase the station. First, I've been told - don't know if it's true or not - that he was convicted of federal tax evasion some years ago. If so, he would be ineligible to own a station. Second, he swooped in when Hank Chadwick was in between dialysis sessions and stole the station for a song - yes, a polka song. Hey, Pickle, Timmer's up there in age, maybe you can swoop in and buy the place before too long. That station could have been something, but it hasn't had decent ownership for over 25 years.

I personally believe along with many other Liberterians and true Goldwater Republicans (not the phony Hush Bimbo Neo-cons) that the IRS should be shut down. Any attempts to avoid paying taxes is considered heroic by me and other True Americans! Vote for Bob Barr 08!

If Timmer hostily took over WGPA than why has Chadwick attended some Christmas parties and sat within reach of Joe Timmer and friends?

Because the Chadwick's never truly gave a damn about the station or the people that worked there. It was just a way for them to give away airtime to their buddies at the Bethlehem Club. I will never forget when Hank Chadwick said to me (I won't quote, because I don't remember the exact words) something to the effect of The only thing at this station that I'm committed to is my wife and daughters (who all worked there). Everything and everyone else is negotiable.

Besides, Doc, I never said that he "hostily" took over the station; I said "he swooped in when Hank Chadwick was in between dialysis sessions and stole the station for a song". Had it been hostile, he would have run him over in his van!
