Siblings that disappeared without explanation

Re "My Three Sons": Mike didn't actually disappear; Tim Considine
decided he'd outgrown the role, so on the first CBS episode he got
married (Meredith MacRae, pre-"Petticoat Junction," played his wife)
and they went off on their own. Ernie was adopted to re-establish
the "three sons". In 1967 the Douglases moved to California, and it
would stand to reason that Mike was established in a career back East
and had no reason to move. My guess is that Tim Considine, when he
left the show, had no intention of coming back, so Mike wasn't seen again.

In the Mama's Family sketches on The Carol Burnett Show, Mama has two sons Phillip (played by Roddy McDowell) and Jack (played by Tommy Smothers) but no mention of Vint on the show until Mama's Family the series went on the air and if I'm not mistaken Phillip and Jack weren't even mentioned on the show. Also there were various aunts that either came and went or mentioned a few times on Mama's Family including Aunt Gertie who was only seen on one episode and the more frequently seen Aunt Effie.
Okay, thanks. To my credit, I didn't say who he was the son of, but I think the series needed a teenager/young adult to play off of in certain skits.Jazz_Kat said:

If this was during their childhood, it may have been before he was born. (I haven't seen the series, so I can't comment on it.) If it was after Chappaquiddick, can you blame them? It also wouldn't surprise me if there was no reference to Rosemary. Didn't Joe, Sr., want to pretend that she didn't exist, and thus keep her out of the spotlight?RicoGregg said:

In one of the middle episodes, Rosemary, who was actually named Rose Marie but was called Rosemary to avoid confusion with her mother, was prominently featured, both as an adolescent and adult.
The series itself covered the time from when Joe Sr. was Ambassador to England through RFK's assassination.
The episodes also included some of their indiscretions, including Joe Sr.'s affairs with Gloria Swanson and his assistant, and both JFK and Bobby with Marilyn Monroe.
On Family Ties, Brian Bonsall's character, Andrew Keaton, was a good five years older than Meredith Baxter (Birney's?) real-life child. Andrew was written into the series as a pregnancy of Elyse Keaton so that Baxter-Birney could continue to appear onscreen, although she was pregnant at the time. Then the year after Andrew was born, he was in kindergarten! Then came that annoying girl that used to do the Welchers juice commericals in the 90's Lily. Also The Codeman Franks newphew left without explanation. Actually he return for 1 episode during the last season. If I remeber the actor actually went to jail in real life for domestic violance. The segment was on Oprah.

I think Coy and Vance were brothers of Bo and Luke... one was the brother of Bo, the other a brother of Luke, but maybe I'm not remembering right. Of course, they weren't mentioned once Bo and Luke returned.firepoint525 said:

Continuity was never a strong suit on the Dukes... Uncle Jesse's late wife was first referred to as Livinia, and later Martha. There was an Aunt Livinia mentioned once who apparently wasn't Jesse's late wife.

Does Bonnie Brindle (Edie McClurg), mother of next-door neighbor Harriet (Emily Schulman--don't remember her married name) on Small Wonder, count? Bonnie disappeared after the second season, and was replaced by Ida Mae Brindle (the late Alice Ghostley), Harriet's father, and Ted Lawson's (Dick Christie) boss at United Robotronics, Brandon Brindle's (William Bogert) sister (you know, the one who claimed to know a lot of celebrities in episodes from the third and fourth seasons).

Boy Meets World was a Michael Jacobs show

It ran in the late 50s and early 60s on ABC but moved to CBS in 1962. When this move took place Kate (Katie Nolan) the wife of Luke (Richard Crenna) along with Kate's siblings Little Luke (Michael Winkleman) and Hassie (Lydia Reed) all suddenly disappeared leaving only Crenna and Walter Brennan (as "...grandpappy Amos,the head of the clan who roars like a lion but is gentle as a lamb....") the remaining main characters of the sitcom.
So what was the reason for this abrupt change? (I presumed Kate died and was written out of the script...and what about the kids???) This move destroyed the series and lost its down-home magic and humor. Me and my dad loved this series during its ABC run....Walter Brennan played his role to the hilt noting the family's West Virginia roots.
