Sick of overpriced cable. Than try this!

Not happy with my cable company lately. They keep increasing the prices and seem to offer less and less. So I made a decision to downgrade my cable to the most basic package available. About 10 Bucks a month for 25 Channels. Sure this isn't going to be a great solution for couch potatoes. But for someone like myself who is online most of the time, It's not going to effect me all that much. As long as I get the big Networks than I am happy. Well once again this is where my cable comapany falls short. They offer all the Providence affiliates, but nothing from Boston except PBS. So I did my homework and bought about 5 indoor antennas with the hopes of picking up all the Boston affiliates that my cable company no longer offers. Well four of these antennas sucked, but one of them did the job amazingly well. It picked up 25 digital channels crystal clear. Picked up everything from Providence and mostly everything from Boston with the exception of FOX 25. For some odd reason it's the only station I can't get no matter what I do. The analougue comes in, but not the digital. Maybe they have to up their power.

In any event.... if anyone is looking for a great indoor antenna, I just wanted to give you a tip. Get the Terk HDTVa Indoor Amplified High-Definition Antenna. Link below. This thing is a signal magnet!

The only problem with it is that it's highly directional. I have a Silver Sensor which looks almost identical to that. Hartford/New Haven has transmitter to the SE, SSW, SW, NW and the NNW of New Britain, which kinda sucks for me. Also, these things are meant for UHF, which WTNH-DT (channel 10) isn't. I only picked up WTXX-DT (channel 12) with it because I'm 5 miles or less from Rattlesnake Mountain.

For people who are watching their money, "basic" or "lifeline" cable is the best deal there is. This is the most economical option for people who want some TV but don't need 50-60 plus channels. It's also good for senior citizens on a fixed income. I've found people who get the basic cable package instead of the satellite network package to use along with their satellite service. In some cases the cable package has channels not available through the satellite network offering. In my situation, the basic package includes a Canadian channel. There's nothing wrong with pulling in whatever you can get with an antenna, however in some areas, like valleys and "pockets", cable works where sometimes even satellites won't. Cable companies would much rather have you buy more than just basic, but they'd rather have you signed on with basic than nothing at all. Some basics have multiple network offerings, which can prove handy. If you also have an A/B switch, you can go to your antenna for backup when the cable(or satellite) is interrupted. (BTW: I own no stock in any cable or media company.)

The Terk Antenna works with both UHF and VHF. I also have the signal combined into my television with the basic cable. So I can easily switch back and forth between the two.

The way they get you is the bare basic cable in Chicago (Comcast) is only three dollars less than getting the first tier.

I like my phone company AT&T they have a barebones plan and when you add in tax, 9-11 service, portibility charge etc, it comes out to five dollars LESS than their minimum package with voice mail, caller ID etc, etc... I mean five buck is five bucks, but that's how they get you.
