Well the other thread has gotten crowded and responses get buried after a while so let's total things up. Firsthand congrats to Gary for making the move and knowing radio doesn't define him. He's accomplished it all and is one of the lucky few to have the kind of name recognition and reputation some only dream of.
Charlie Jefferds: Good choice but would he want to? He does do morning fill in for Gary but is he himself too close to making the decision to leave radio? How old is he? 70 or so give or take.
Larry Kruger: Good choice but he probably wouldn't do it.
Jimmy Gray: Good choice but as I remember his work he has a different type of personality. No longer top 40-ish but more humor oriented and quick on the one liners. Still a good choice but I have no idea what he's doing now or if radio would even be an option for him.
David Jones (and Joan??): IMO the best option but maybe an unrealistic one.
Big John: No. He belongs back on the air in Providence but not at Lite. He still has a lot of the top 40 sound in him.
Bruce Palmer: This could work
Ron St Pierre: He used to be a jock and he isn't a bad one. He isn't a bad non-music host either. Depends on the direction he wants to go. For all his years in Providence radio he's more known by insiders than listeners though, although I think his current stint at WPRO has changed some of that.
Austin at B101: He was cut loose at WSRS and is weekending at The B. Don't think so. No name recognition in the market which Lite will undoubtedly be looking for if they're smart.
Choices choices. In spite of what most think of stations like Lite these are big shoes to fill. The music isn't the most important thing in the morning and the wrong choice could send listeners flocking to Coast. That might stop the Coast morning crew from acting like giddy teenagers. Maybe rescuing Joanie would be the best idea after all.
