Signal issues with KJSR?

Are they running less power today? Couldn't hear them at all, though I am in Coffeyville, KS; 70 miles away from the Tower. it's still weird not hearing them at all. Just wondering if anybody knew anything about this.

Wondering the same thing. Though the signal is better, still considerably weaker up here.

This will be an on going issue with 103.3 and 104.5 while work is performed on the tower to move 106.1 to that site. When workers are on the tower you cannot radiate them with excessive RF energy. This requires both power reduction and switching to aux antennas at much much lower ERP and height.

The amount of power reduction will depend on exactly where workers are on the tower and also if the load line is in use. Workers may not be anywhere near these antennas but the load line is traveling within a few feet of the antennas so arcing will occur if the stations are operating with very much power.

This is not just a simple stick the antenna and line up there and your done. The tower was built in 1980 and needs extensive work to bring it up to current tower standards before another antenna and line is added.

If you can hear them in Coffeyville like you normally do then there is probably no work going on, if you can't hear them then there is work on the tower at that time.

Owners don't want to hear it, but having an aux site these days is more critical than ever. "Back in the day" you could just let the RF blow and go with people right up in the energy field. If they started getting burned or didn't like the tingling the were getting, the power could be cut in half, if you wanted to be "nice". These days, as the other poster indicated, there are pretty strict rules on how much you can radiate someone with RF. It's pretty restrictive too. So, in the world of cheap owners, we have more need than we used to for having a way to keep stuff on the air with a useful signal while work is being done. The best option, and the most expensive of course, is to have something off-site that at least covers the entire survey area.

Definitely makes sense. Thanks Tower Lights! Awhile back I thought they decided not to move the 106.1 frequency over to the KMYZ/KJSR site. Guess I was wrong..
