Signal Problem

I live in the Washington DC metro area, and even here there are signal problems even in the inner suburbs like Suitland. On Pennsylvania Ave, near Penn-Mar, the signal blanks out. On 301, going from the Brandywine Costco to Upper Marlboro, it blanked out for several miles. It also tends to be weak in the Bowie area. Lots of times, you can't change channels. Going to Gettysburg, it went dead for 15 minutes. It's not my antenna or radio. XM's signal is weak and seems to be getting worse. If it's this bad where their headquarters is, how bad is it elsewhere?
 
I have never had a problem where I live. There is a spot down the street where I loose the signal for a second but that's about as bad as it gets, just a second. I think it's due to the trees and there was one other place near where I used to work where I lost signal for a second.

My question is: There is a rumor going around that Sirius/XM will have to shut down all their terrestrial repeaters. Is that true? If so I can see that being a big problem for them.

Right now, the source for that is a leaked document that's appeared on xmfan.com. The company has made on official announcement. Supposedly, the XM repeaters will be sacrificed so SiriXM will have extra bandwidth to test and implement its new "hierarchical modulation" system that will make "satellite radio 2.0" possible next year.
 
No problems here in Mississippi except for the occasional tree and building interference. Are you sure it's not your radio or antenna?

This is NOT normal performance. It's likely there is something wrong with your set up.
 
Check your antenna cable to make sure there's nothing exposed. You could also try a new antenna. Make sure all the connections to your receiver are correct. Most likely it's an antenna or receiver issue, especially since no one else is claiming a signal problem.

Check your set up and make sure you have a clear line of site. I highly doubt it's a problem with SiriusXM seeing as no one else is reporting an issue. It can't just be a signal problem in your city. Satellite technology doesn't work that way.

I got two radios doing this and did a re fresh signal on one.....and I have aimed at the southern sky till i'm almost pointing down....no xm preview...and wires were fine...then nothing.
 
How about trees and buildings? Again, satellite signal problems don't just happen in random places without some sort of cause, usually trees etc. Maybe some sort of electronic interference? Usually with satellites, it's all or nothing as far as problems. Meaning, unless multiple people are having issues, it's normally not the satellite.
