Signal Upgrade for 1030 AM

Maybe I have missed something here and some of my "Good Guys" can fill in the blanks..Where are these 50KW authorizations coming from? I haven't seen any FCC docket on "Open Season".. A station in my hometown in Florida WWBC (I think) also is claiming to be going 50KW..Howe can this be after 40 years on the air as a 1000 watt weiner and BOOM...We're 50KW..Something ain't right here??? BIG APE!

There are a few sharp RF Engineers that can create a 50Kw Application that meets the requirements; but not the intent.

When you look at the patterns of some of the latest upgrades, you wonder why????

Revenue!!!! 50Kw gets you the Big Bucks from the syndicators. So what if 99% of the signal is tightly focused or fingered out like an octopus.

Looking at the FCC website, what they've done is modify WDRU's pattern. The station's been broadcasting at 50,000 watts since signing on in the 1980s (it was then WFTK), but the major lobe was southeast of the antenna site in Butner. They've made adjustments to better-cover Durham and Raleigh by directing the lobe due south.

WFMO is a prime example. For years operated as a 1 kw daytime with no presunrise on 860. They just recently got approval to change their ID to Conway, SC from Fairmont, NC, a distance of about 40 miles with a 50kw signal on 860 that pretty much shoots out over the Atlantic Ocean over Myrtle Beach! So if you are a sailor 1000 miles of the coast, you are in business. If you live on the west side of Conway, SC, you have no signal. WTF?

I've gotten DRU numerous times in Englewood in the late afternoon about an 1 hr before local sunset. Even gotten the other pray for view station from Corpus the same day (close to local sunset) kinda a religious daily double.

I did the RF modifications for the pattern change at WDRU. The changes added an estimated 300,000 persons to the 5mv/m contour, obviously a worthwhile move for them.
