Signs (Casualties?) Of The NFL Lockout

Not sure who made this move but while scanning the sports channels, I noticed that NFL RedZone has been replaced by Altitude 2 in SD on Comcast/Xfinity Channel 418 here in Denver (Altitude 2 is normally carried on a shared basis with CET on Channel 105).

I hope this is just a temporary measure until the lockout issue is resolved. If not, I'd hate to see NFL RedZone become a casualty of the lockout.

That said, if football season approaches with no agreement in place between the NFL & its players (Or if the 2011 season is cancelled), hopefully Comcast/Xfinity will use the channel to put ESPN GoalLine on in its place.

This way, we'll still get football like NFL RedZone would carry it every week (It'll just be college football though ;D ).

What changes have you noticed because of the NFL lockout?

Cheers :D

Haven't noticed a thing. Just that the Sports segment of the news talk about football more then baseball pre-season. I believe this is a stunt by the NFL to keep their name out there during the off season.

Don't Goal Line and Red Zone both only broadcast one day a week? That seems to be the perfect opportunity to combine the two on one channel and save the bandwidth.

The newsman said they can not agree on what to do with a 9 billion dollar surplus fund. Is that
correct?

Why not give it back to the fans who have been paying out the a** for tickets all these years?

I was thinking the same thing once they extended their lockout deadline by a week. I doubt any games will be missed.

That's what I'm thinking the NFL & ESPN should've agreed to (Especially since the NFL won't be using it themselves until the lockout is resolved).

Of course since the 2011 season is still a long ways off, a lot can still happen (Including an agreement which would end the lockout with little to no disruption at all in the league's offseason activities) so it's not too late for such an arrangement to be made.

And if the NFL does begin its season on time, they could agree with cable & satellite providers to let ESPN use their RedZone channel if the provider doesn't assign a different one (That said though, it took Comcast/Xfinity FOUR YEARS to add ESPNU to the lineup here in Denver so it wouldn't be surprising if it took that long to get Goal Line as well  ).

But then too, CSTV (Now CBS College Sports) was just getting started (And looked more like a sports version of G4) & TheMtn didn't even exist yet. Given this, we might get Goal Line sooner than that (At least I hope!) ;D

Cheers :D

More like in the case of NFL redzone 6 1/2hrs for 17 weeks out of the year. Which comes to about just under 5 days of broadcasting each year. Now I love NFL redzone, but it is the biggest waste of bandwidth. We havn't gotten any new HD channels in over a year, and are still far behind fios & directv. So it always annoys me when I see NFLred zone "off the air" in the guide. Especially since NFLN airs just a scoreboard during those same 6 1/2hrs.

Again, I love NFL redzone, but there is no justification on why it should be a channel. It should be a program on NFLN. The only reason it isn't, is because the NFL wanted to be able to make more money by havning a 2nd network to get money for.
