About 4:00 today (Sunday) I heard a lot of dead air on WOKK. I wonder what is going on there today. Normally a lot of Country coming out of that station on most days. but today dead air.
Loud and clear in Stonewall. I haven't noticed any silence. Perhaps the computer just hiccuped or something when you flipped over to it. Why did you assume something was "wrong?" These things happen all the time, people just don't generally notice it. I can't tell you how many times in my career I had a few minutes of dead air every now and then because the computer crashed or something like that.
Well, Jonathan, it's just that sometimes there's no one at the station to fix the mistake and no one if importance is even listening. I guess it would be odd for a station of WOKK's stature to be in that kind of a positions but it's happened in far larger markets and for far greater amounts of time. I've personally heard it, myself in markets like Nashville and Birmingham.
Of course, if someone could ring up an engineer or shoot off an e-mail to a live person, the long-term silence issues could get fixed, but most stations these days have no way for the average Joe to contact anyone when the studio's empty.
This is about the only place to go where "someone" might be watching and can fix it or let us know what's going on. It's almost like corporate radio has no concern for the listeners… oh wait, they don't.
