Silent Sam's Segue Serenade at KOOL yesterday morning

From 5 until 7 am yesterday (5/21) NO ONE was on the air at KOOL. The Audiovault just kept segueing music, liners, commercials, and the full-length traffic and weather beds. When the jock FINALLY came on just before 7 am, he apologized, saying he "didn't throw the right switch" to get the studio mic on the air. I call hogwash, being familiar with the equipment at the studios there...and for TWO hours? Wasn't Tom and Wally right down the hallway at KMLE?

Just another sad case of what was once a great radio station. In a # 15 market this would never happen before corporate radio ruined it.

KOOL is a great example of why terrestrial radio numbers are declining. As long as stations think they are nothing but jukeboxes with endless segues and the same playlist of 100 songs, their numbers will sink faster than the Titanic.

Not making excuses here but....

The normal morning crew was off and a DJ I didn't recognize was subbing. He may well not have known the studio layout since he wasn't a regular.

If I were PD for a Day I think I would have tried to bring one of the old regulars back in (Camelback....oh, Camelback....where are you?????).

I have it from a very reliable source that the recently seldom-used Katfish Kris
(not to be confused with PD Kris) did AM drive both Wednesday and Thursday.

The excuse for why he did no live breaks until almost 7am yesterday does indeed
seem like hogwash, unless their Audio Vault in "live jock mode" was on the fritz.

Peaker was back this morning, riding solo. I don't think Maria has been on all
this week.

And no cold segues either.

the silence wasn't katfish fault - it was mine - flipped a switch west instead of east - totally my bad
and responsability -
sorry you still miss camelback - appreciate it when you do listen

Nothing personal Steve. But Cameljack Back wuz my Bud too. :'(

It appears that KOOL is in a dead-air mode a lot lately. I heard that 3/4 of the noon hour on Monday slipped into darkness. As for Katfish Kris Kelley, living in Tucson, the early morning freeway backups into Phoenix have got to be herendous.

The KMLE was silent Monday at the same time that KOOL was down.

Sorry KOOL cats...a power issue knocked out some 'puters. Sorry to dampen your holiday! We are fortifying our systems, so please be patient.

How's this for a novel backup system? Two QRK turntables and a bunch of 45s.

Of course, you'd need some more live jocks to spin them (hint hint for PD Kris
and others going up the CBS management chain).

I would also reserve the right to confiscate all copies of the 45 rpm record having
the label/number of Bang 545. ;D
