Statement Regarding False Report
Oct 29, 2009 -

Statement by Joel Glazer, Co-Chairman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

“The report today by WDAE’s Dan Sileo about our family and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is 100 percent false.

"The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not, nor have they ever been for sale. In addition, our family or any of our related companies have never invested one penny with Bernie Madoff.

"The report is baseless, irresponsible and slanderous. This type of behavior by Mr. Sileo and his company Clear Channel will be dealt with in the appropriate manner.”

That's pretty heavy coming from on high. Might this affect the future of CC as radio rights holder? And if so, what group might be inline?

Screw the Glazers. It's about time somebody calls out these abusive owners for what they are - cheap. All they are doing is raping the fans for money right now and have zero commitment to winning - and someone needs to uncover the crap going on.

The Tallahassee paper has an article about this today, although it doesn't mention Madoff by name. It says "bad investments may cause the Glaziers to sell..."

The vehement denial quoted above makes it seem more like there IS something to this story.

The bad investment is the Manchester United soccer team. They are hemorrhaging money on that deal.

The Glazer's stwardship of the Bucs has been dreadful in recent years. However, that does not give anyone a license to spew out just anything they want. The facts speak for themselves: they leveraged themselves up the wazoo to buy Man U, they are massively below the salary cap limit and their team stinks amid poor personnel decisions and what may turn out to be the worst coaching hire since Richard Williamson. The bottom line is the team stinks and it wouldn't be out of line to say that they've gone the Hugh Culverhouse route of using the franchise as a cash cow. Just throwing out a half-assed report like that based on somehting "a friend" told him is irresponsible to say the least. Of course, this isn't the first time an Animal host has put his foot in his mouth, but it appears to be the first time the station is willing to do anything about it.

It's amazing the lengths sports hosts will go to when the local football team is struggling. The sports radio "war" in Washington (one of the stations owned by Redskins owner Dan Snyder) is worth observing.

from WDAE'S website

"During a broadcast Thursday 10/29/09 on WDAE, morning host Dan Sileo made some statements about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Glazer family that were factually incorrect. We sincerely apologize for those statements and hereby issue a full retraction."

and it's Darek Sharp.

Just fire the buffoon and get on with it. He sucks out loud - the constant claims of his former athletic prowess are usually embellished significantly. I called his show one day when he said that he was better than Warren Sapp who he played side by side with at U of Miami. When I reminded him that the stats didn't show that and that Warren was still in the NFL and he had been doing sports radio for 10 years, he hung up and told me to not call his show again. I have not turned it on since. There was actually a newspaper piece about all of his athletic claims showing it was all crap.

He is a polarizing figure with the New York schtick nonsense - they would be better off running FSR.

Dan Sileo is a ****ing idiot and I think everyone here knows my position on the hack. However, he is right about this (for once) and Duemeg has been pounding on this for a while too. The Glazers are running the Bucs into the ground the say way Hugh Culverhouse that cheap bastard did. The difference is Culverhouse was ALWAYS cheap, he didnt give us a taste of success and then pull it away. I think they are going to see that fans here will not accept a loser and their gate income will take a hit.

I don't know, with this week's come-from-behind victory to start the Freeman Era, it might continue their sellout streak and make one Mr. Sileo eat his words...
