Okay,, to cut the personal info to a minimum,, cause no one cares....LOL..... I am no in a long distance relationship with a girl who lives in a place called Hillsville Virginia.... I cant find it on a map, but i know its like 10 hrs away from my indiana location...

Where exactly is this,,, I type it in on radio locator and it redirects me to somewhere in Texas....

Okay,,, Question is,,,, will I be able to get any CHR or Rhythmic stations there at all... Will I possibly be able to get like G-105.1 RALEIGH,,,, OR MAYBE k-92 Roanoke,,,, how about Electric 94.9,, Tri Cities Tenn.... 107.5 KZL in Winston Salem NC???? Q-94 Richmond????? IDK.... Her idea of a top 40 station is a little different from mine? Radio Locator keeps redirecting me to somewhere called,,, i think Hillsdale Texas.... thats not right..... She says she gets top 40 music on 95.1???? Is that WNKS Charlotte Perhaps???? They do have a killer signal but seems out of range.

Man! Have you not heard of Mapquest.

I would go to Radio Locator and use Mt. Airy, NC and/or Wytheville,VA.

If your biggest concern about this trip is finding a radio station that will feed your habit, I have to wonder what the "signal strength" of your relationship with this girl is!

Found it on mapquest. It is down near the NC border in SW West VA off I-77. (closest location on Radio-Locatar is Galax, VA). I highly doubt 95.1 Kiss-FM Charlotte makes it there unless it is highly elevated becuase Kiss 95.1 is not listenable in Winston-Salem/Greensboro). Top 40 should easily be heard on 92.3 Roanoke, VA (K92) and WZVA Z1035 Marion, VA.

Then maybe these stations can be heard also:
107.5 WKZL Winston-Salem/Greensboro (heard easliy in Martinsville, Danville - east of Hillsville)
100.7 WFNR- Christianburg, VA (Hot 100)
95.9 WSTG - Princeton, WV (doubt it gets over the mountains)

Some of you guys have got to be kidding me.... Geez, Flame me for a simple question... (EDIT OFFENSIVE CONTENT) You guys////////// And thanks to the ones that helped me.... the 92.3 must me the K-92 she was telling me about,,, and it streams online and really isnt bad... Also 107.5 ZLK Winstom Salem comes in........ You gotta understand,, I lived in East Tennessee were we onve had 2 or 3 good CHRs,,,,, I 100 WOKI Knoxville and 99.9 Kiss FM WKSF Asheville, and sometimes weakly we could get the Dance Friendly Power 93.3 WBBO Greenville-Spartanburg.. Well, in 93-94 all 3 stations decided to go country,, and I had no CHR,,, not even an AC or Rock station to listen to,,, It was pure hell to live in this area....

I cant beleive how big of an AZZ some of you guys have been,,, but if I stay out in the hills for 2 weeks with no CHR,,, and then come back to work to Program a station,, i wont know whats hot,, or what to look for,, and its gonna make me behind on times... My GM specifically ask me that if i have no access to internet there, to make sure i listen to the new Adds that the CHRs there are adding,,, or I cant get the time off...... GEEZ.... you guys sure made my day... BTW, she says she can get Kiss 95.1,, so maybe it is elevated, cause i can get that station south of Knoxville on top the peak in Smokey Mountain Park.... Just because Radio Locator says there is,, or isnt a signal there,, doesnt make it true unless the ground is flat,, and they dont account for adjacnet or co channel interference.

I know that for a fact, Waynesboro, VA can pick up many stations due to it's height, including Richmond, VA and Lynchburg, VA stations and they have strong signal there, but Charlottesville, VA is closer to Richmond (by 20-30 miles) but the Richmond stations are very weak there and not listenable (expect at night).

I haven't been to Waynesboro for many, many years, but I am having trouble digesting your post.

Are you describing AM or FM, or are you mixing them together? If we are talking FM, night-time and daytime should NOT be significantly different.

My memory is that as you come across the Shenandoah Valley traveling east from Staunton, you come to Waynesboro as you approach the Blue Ridge. You drive through town and as you exit Waynesboro on the East you go UP to the top of the Blue Ridge. (Excellent place to begin a scenic drive of the Blue Ridge by turning onto the Parkway.)

Waynesboro is down in the blooming valley with the Blue Ridge between it and Richmond. If you are talking about FM, that ridge has to do severe blocking. If you are talking about AM, elevation has little or no effect on signal strength.

Are you describing a Waynesboro address having good reception because it is on the east side of the ridge?

Curios Minds Have to Know! ;D

Here is what I found out from having her do an FM bandscan in her moms van...Granted she is into radio too.

Here's what I have found so far...

92.3 K-92 Roanoke... Very Clear signal..

94.9 Electric 94.9..... Barely there and Suffers co channel interference badly from Star Country 94.9 in Roanoke.

Kiss 95.1.... Strong signal until you go down the hills,, then fades...

95.9?????--Static..

105.1....G-105 Raleigh--There but fuzzy....

107.5 KZL Winston Salem NC... Very Strong signal....

100.7 hot 100.... there but fuzzy..... Cumulous anyway so no loss... Very weak 800 watt signal..

And one more thing..... There is no Urban AC there that I know of.... This is the deep south White Country Virgina we are talking about... besides that she doesnt like that kind of music...

I figured Hot 100 and 95.9 wouldnt come in due to the mountains and 94.9 Star Country gets into Greensboro NC area (at least it did the day I drove down to Charlotte, NC) so it surprises me Electric 94.9 comes in there 2.

As far as Waynesboro, you can be in town and pick up many many stations due to it's height of the mountains. Yes this includes Richmond stations (when I was an intern at the Richmond stations we actually had some listeners call us from Waynesboro, but I have also been there and they do come in, maybe not all but some of them do)- and since I don't listen to AM unless sports is on I was talking about FM stations.

Now Staunton (only 15 miles west of Waynesboro) and areas along I 81 it is lower in elevation and the stations you got in Waynesboro are pretty much static with them attemping to come in as you go up a hill.

And yes at night stations come in very well that are not local. One morning in Charlottesville, VA i was picking up Hot 995 out of DC clear...but more impressive I was hearing Q102 from Philly, which really shocked me cause we usually can pick up 1021 the X from Richmond clear at night and early morning (and Richmond is 60 miles away vs many many more for Philly) ....and another night I was getting Hampton Roads stations clear.

Down in Hampton Roads, VA at night Q94 from Richmond can be heard at the VA Bch Oceanfront (unless over run by 94.5 Water Country from the Outer Banks) and Beach 104 from the Outer Banks, NC can almost make it to Richmond. If the wind is right it can happen easy, especially at night and early morning.
