Silverwind

If K-Love is still playing the music of Avalon then they should certainly be playing the music of one of the best pop CCM groups ever. They sounded better than the secular group ABBA to whom they were compared and that's the contemporary Christian group SILVERWIND. Comprised of a male member from Romania and 2 female members, they were outstanding. Add to Silverwind, K-Love should also be playing Sweet Comfort Band and DeGarmo & Key.

Amen to the DeGarmo and Key request.

It doesn't hurt to play the classic songs too.

They may sound dated but the message is very timeless.

P.S. Not too familiar with those other singers though. Been adding to my oldies collection, for over a year now. Discovering even more of the great classic singers, that I didn't know existed before. Got into CCM back in 1986 with Stryper and then in 1989 with Mylon and Broken Heart. Things haven't been the same for me since.

Silverwind's "A New Beginning" is still a favorite CCM song for me.

KLove is a current based AC station.. their folks have done testing and research and the playlist is based on what the listeners are telling them they want. Most CCM listeners today are not into the classics and airing them would likely turn off listeners.

No so. In Birmingham, for instance, Mr. Ronnie Bruce plays the classic songs every Friday and mixes them in with the currents. He's been doing this for years now and it seems to be working for him and WDJC Radio.

Glad that someone is still remembering those songs and singers who helped put CCM on the map.

Another example of someone mixing in the Classics with the currents is Music Choice. Loved the way they did it. Wish Direct TV would carry their program again. Been missing it. I still watch it some, when I'm visiting a family member. They get this awesome program on their Charter Cable provider.

The Classics aren't out of style. There are some who are still playing these timeless songs and I'm glad they do it.

I have been listening to CCM since the 70's and love a lot of the old stuff but like it or not XMusicmatt is right. Most of K-Love's audience don't knoiw those songs and would switch quickly if they were played. CCM is already a niche format and now we're talking about a niche of a niche. There just aren't enough people who know the music to make it viable.

A big factor is that in many areas like West TN, where I live, CCM radio has only come into existence over the last 10 years or so because of churches who opposed it and Christian station owners who wouldn't play it. And since K-LOVE is basically a "top 40" CCM format, older CCM gets left out.

I really don't know why K-LOVE couldn't at least do a weekend show with classic CCM. Larry Wayne has had a classic CCM show called Streets of Gold, so he would be a good choice for doing a similar show for K-LOVE.

Yesterday I went to iTunes and EVERY Silverwind song and album is there. I downloaded "A New Beginning" & "I Will Bless The Lord". Sure, some of the songs sounded "80s-ish" but by far, most of them sound like they were produced in 2011. The production quality was excellent. No low-budget sounding stuff. Any of you still fortunate enough to be working at a locally-programmed radio station should make the investment to download some of those Silverwind songs if you don't have them.

Silverwind produced the ONE SONG that stands out, above and beyond ALL OTHERS. If I could ONLY have ONE song in my Mp3 player, and be stranded on a desert island for 5 years, I would want it to be "Praise Anthem". \o/

That song, in fact, will be THE THEME SONG of my future radio station, WPHA. (See the link in my signature, below.) You can hear "Praise Anthem" as the #1 featured song on my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/morning1500

For the 20 years I worked at WFIF, I was playing the "Classic Inspo" music every day. Even into the 2000's, listeners frequently thanked me for playing those "old songs". Others (obviously NEW CHRISTIANS) were asking me about those wonderful songs, that to them, were BRAND NEW.

So, based upon my 20 years experience in Christian radio, I say that there MOST DEFINITELY IS an audience for these classics! Select the songs carefully and prayerfully, put them into a playlist that flows together well, and you most DEFINITELY CAN play 1980's CCM right alongside 2011's! AND HAVE IT SOUND WONDERFUL, TOO! :D

It all starts with prayer. :)

I agree there may be an audience for this.. however that Audience is not likely the same that stations such as KLove, Today's Christian Music target. Which is why classics mixed into reg. Rotation on a Christian AC station is likely not going to see wide spread results.

It saw pretty good results on the Morning Light program, with listeners returning each spring, when the program returned. They even supported it financially, and it was only on the air for an hour a day, (6-7am) and only in the spring/summer.

Prayerful selection of the music, putting the songs together in groups, by theme, is an important part of the formula. The lyrics really do matter. :)

How sad because there was so much great stuff back then. Its the almighty dollar that has taken control. I've done a radio show called New Creation since back then and we will STILL PLAY some of those old songs.

I played those old songs CONSISTENTLY on the Morning Light program I hosted on WFIF for many years. I lost count of the numbers of calls I got from people asking about those songs. To them, those songs were BRAND NEW!

That is an interesting point to make, that to NEW CHRISTIANS, these "classic" Christian songs that we (who have been on the Way a long time) know and love, they are BRAND NEW! They would BUY THEM, if they could! People have told me so!

Usually, the peope who go on and on about how money has become more important than ministry are not the ones who have to make sure there's enough in the bank account to cover their employees paychecks...
