SIM cards for XM receivers?

Has there ever been consideration of modelling
XM satellite receivers along the line of GSM
cellphones? That is, would they put all subscriber
information into a SIM card that can be swapped from
the car receiver to a portable? Being limited to
one receiver, in the car only for example, reduces
the time I can enjoy XM programming.

why in the world would you need that..all stations are on all receivers..
you can put a skyfi 2 in your car with a car kit and you can bring it inside and hook it up with a home kit to your home stereo..
______________
note to the NAB..satellite radio..its worth paying for!!

Well, they are working on something similar, the XM Passport chip. It is a small (but slightly larger than a SIM card) chip that could be moved between XM Passport-compatible radios (of which the first hit the market in a few months, IIRC).

IMO, though, the current system of just having a handheld/portable radio like the MyFi serves my XM needs just fine. Plus, I actually prefer being able to program it to record content at home, then grab it and go (with recorded content already available, rather than being limited to live content).

I love this idea. It is one of my main gripes with satellite. I will be waiting with baited breath. What does that mean anyhow?

I listen to my XM solely at home via the Delphi SKYFi2 receiver and audio system (boombox). I actually got the receiver with the vehicle system as a Christmas gift, but I decided that since I only spend an average of perhaps 30 to 60 minutes a day in my car I would rather listen to it here at home. So I went out and bought the boombox and set it up right here in my living room. It serves me well. I do know this though. My next new car will have XM already factory-installed in it. Less hassle.

THE MAJOR

Thanks for the information. I looked around the net
and found various articles on this device. It's basically
what I had in mind.

My listening is primarily in the car and while walking
around. Taking a Sky-Fi2 with you for a walk requires
carrying the heavy boombox in your hand and positioning
the antenna on your head. :) With XM Passport it looks
like you will be able to slip the device into a car unit
and then into a belt-worm portable. Way to go XM!!
