Simian Voicetracking

Couple of questions for those using the Simian automation. The Boss wants to start voicetracking certain dayparts which are currently satellite driven. The On Air box has a Lynx card instead of the recommended Audio Science. Is anyone using/Voicetracking a Simian with this setup?

Thanks in advance

P.S. these Lynx cards were here before me and there is apparently no room in the budget just now for an audio card upgrade.

We're not using Lynx cards, but we have used Antex cards for several years and they have worked just fine. Technically you can voicetrack in Simian with a simple full-duplex audio card (like Soundblaster), it's just not the best option. Any audio card with multiple playback decks will work much better.

Not sure what Lynx model you're running, but you could always put 2 cards in your voicetracking machine. Most of their cards allow for multiple-card configurations.

Just make sure your setup is correct in the Simian hardware options and you should be fine. If you have to run everything through 1 playback deck, you will probably not be able to hear the music cuts while you voicetrack....you'll just have to cut the track and lay it into place.

Hope it helps!

I used the audio science cards as well as sound blaster and turtle beach
cards. They all worked fine on Windows XP. The real issue is what type
of compression are you using. They must all be the same. MP3 to MP3. If I remember correctly, to segue, the audio science must be at 32k sampling.

Thanks for the responses. The plan is to use full linear WAV files throughout, now that hard drive space is more affordable. I just want to make sure we're not trying to accomplish the imposssible.

I think it depends on the model of AudioScience cards....we're using 4326 cards with linear PCM 44.1k files and they work great with Simian. Could be different with MP3s though.

Actually, it's a very good option that will sound good on the air if the jocks are good at it. You can even make it sound like your doing "live" remotes. It's all about the jocks and the guy editing the simian log to see that is done right.
