Simington Leaves FCC

I'm surprised Simington wanted to leave The FCC. It will be filled soon since they have the votes for the 2 other conservatives which the 2 Dems should also get a vote as the President shouldn't say I'm not filling the other 2 members, as that is abuse of power in my opinion should be changed.

Actually, there will still be one Democrat on the Commission, Anna Gomez. But three Republicans is as high as Trump can go, as the FCC has always had a requirement for no more than three members being from the same political party.

A second repub has been approved by the senate committee. It just has to go to the full senate for a vote:

According to the article, Democratic Washington Senator Maria Cantwell said that she will vote for Trusty only if the Trump Administration names a Democratic commissioner to replace Starkes. The article also noted that Anna Gomez's job may not be in immediate jeopardy now because even if Ms. Trusty is confirmed, firing Anna Gomez would bring the FCC back to having no quorum.

FCC Commissioner Gomez did an update on all the investigations started by Chairman Carr. She says they're all in a holding pattern. Nothing can be done without the full commission:

She described the investigation into public radio as a "fishing expedition."

About that last quote from Brendan Carr. I have as yet to see his definition of public service which makes me think that it's all part of the smokescreen of imtimidation that the current federal administration is trying to push towards all it can't directly control, including radio and television broadcasters.

Gavin Wax is named as a candidate to take the FCC Commissioner if approved.

President Trump has a pair of openings to fill on the Federal Communications Commission with the departure of Republican Nathan Simington and Democrat Geoffrey Starks at the end of last week. Focus is now on potential nominees, and Simington says he is not surprised that there is support for his former chief of staff, Gavin Wax, for the role.

“I think the world of Gavin,” Simington told the Daily Caller News Foundation over the weekend. “I was not surprised to hear that the president’s interested in him. Obviously, this is the president’s call and it’s not my job to tell the president who to nominate, but I would certainly not be unhappy. In fact, I’d be very happy to see Mr. Wax on.”

Simington, who is said to be headed for a new job in the private sector, brought Wax onboard in April. Wax is the former President of the New York Young Republican Club, who has been a high-profile activist in Republican politics during the past few years. If he is selected, the 31-year-old would become the youngest FCC commissioner in history.

“Gavin and I have spent a great deal of time talking about the necessity of maintaining the financial viability of over-the-air broadcast,” Simington told the Daily Caller. “It’s a vital source of local journalism and local meteorology for most of the country, and there’s no clear replacement if it goes away.”
