simmons media

it's look' s like simmons media is having a hard time selling its four waco, stations. they are also in a local managemnt agreement with border media in austin. (104.9 espn and maybe 92.5 oldies)

oh i forgot you can go to the fcc site on klrk-fm. where daryl o neal has posted a extension of time to protest against simmons media.

something about 1380 kslg st louis espn station, some procedure violation they did and that they paid the fcc fine.

It's very unusual for an application for assignment of license to be rescinded like this. Where did you find the connection between Mr. O'Neal and the St. Louis station? The only thing I remember was that the FCC fined Simmons back in 2007 for operating KSLG with their daytime facilities at night.

Yeah, this is true. The guy trying to stop the buy sell is disgruntled. What's bad is that everything at Simmons is up in the air thanks to this guy.

Noticed this weekend visiting family that KRQX/Mexia was silent. The FM was business as usual, but 1590 was off the air on Saturday. Wonder if this has anything to do with M&M acquiring it? All others in the M&M purchase from Simmons were programming as usual.

Interesting thread. What do you mean by disgruntled? Meaning crazy? Is this why the streaming stopped? Who are they trying to sell the stations to?

Here's some detail on the objection, from the WFFX sale application:

ON OCTOBER 22, 2009, DARYL ONEAL FILED AN INFORMAL OBJECTION AGAINST AN APPLICATION FOR CONSENT TO ASSIGN THE LICENSES FOR FOUR RADIO STATIONS IN THE WACO, TEXAS MARKET FROM SIMMONS-AUSTIN, LS, LLC TO M&M BROADCASTERS, LTD. IN HIS INFORMAL OBJECTION, MR. ONEAL ALLEGED THAT SIMMONS-AUSTIN, LS, LLC MISREPRESENTED FACTS TO THE COMMISSION IN CONNECTION WITH AN INQUIRY INTO THE OPERATION OF KSLG(AM), ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, AND FAILED TO COMPLY WITH A CONSENT DECREE. ON OCTOBER 30, 2009, SIMMONS-AUSTIN, LS, LLC SUBMITTED AN ANSWER TO THE INFORMAL OBJECTION DEMONSTRATING THAT THE ALLEGATIONS ARE WITHOUT MERIT. GIVEN THE SPECIOUS NATURE OF THE INFORMAL OBJECTION, THE APPLICANT PROVIDES THIS DISCLOSURE SIMPLY OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION.

Obviously there's more to the story; and for the record I don't know Mr. O'Neal. As for who is trying to buy the Simmons stations, M&M Broadcasters (principals Gary Moss of Fort Worth and George Marti of Cleburne) has owned several stations in the Fort Worth and Waco areas in the past. They currently own KCLE 1460 Burleson (suburban Fort Worth) and KVTT (formerly KJSA) 1110 Mineral Wells, which targets the D/FW area.

Mr. O'Neal is the former GM of the Simmon's group in Austin. He did some really incredible work with 107.7 when it was owned by Simmons.

Yeah I loved listening to 107.7 The Hawk I wish someone would bring back the Classic Hits format to Austin

I would not call The Hawk, the ‘incredible’ work Simmons did with 107.7. I would vote for the launch of KNNC - K-Nack which was a fantastic radio station and when 101X launched in '95 was a formidable competitor even with the lousy signal. You couldn’t go anywhere in Austin without seeing the K-Nack Psycho-Baby bumper stickers. And wasn’t their promo vehicle an old hearse?
