Simmons out at WHBC-FM

All Access is reporting that Terry Simmons was cut loose after the final edition of "Terry and Maddie'' this morning at WHBC FM in Canton....no word on when or if a new PD or OM could be named..

It couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. My faith in Next Media is restored. This is fantastic news for WHBC and everyone who had to live with this cruel egomanic for far too long (though many of them deserved him, too). Too bad it took such a long time for anyone there to have the cajones to do the right thing.

This move doesn't surprise me at all. In fact, It should have been done two or three years ago. As for the rest of the airstaff, if they don't have their resumes up to date and a recent aircheck, now would be a good time to do so!

Just read about the good news about Terry, and POETIC JUSTICE it was 9 years ago this week my best friend,my best man at my wedding MIKE YOUNG was let go OVER THE PHONE. People inside never agreed with how he handled that and all the other situations that have happened over the years. Let's hope you goes far away from the Ohio market, and Tom is correct the PURGING IS JUST GETTING STARTED,Tom hope they call ya and maybe call the man who really had WHBC's best interest DOUG LANE.

Tom--it should have been done 6 years ago. Instead, someone who thought he knew radio (and people), but clearly didn't, promoted Terry instead. It seems now people are in place who see the truth of what that evil dwarf really was. Good riddance, dwarf. No one will miss you.

I agree with everyone's opinion on this topic. Simmons had no professional manners at all. I am new to this site, but not to this business. I applied with WHBC In July of 2000 and was called for an interview right away do weekends. At the time I was on the air at a station in Cleveland. When I showed up for the interview with Terry, the receptionist at the front desk told me he called in sick that morning. He never rescheduled the interview nor did I ever talk to the man again. It's time the radio business starts getting rid of the jerk-offs like Simmons and starts replacing them with good experienced radio people who for one knows the business and for two knows how to treat employees and prospective employees. I hope the next PD is better.

Wow, the vitriol in this thread is amazing. Let's see, I count one former employee, and another guy who didn't get anywhere with the company for whatever reason. I see sympathy for Doug Lane, who, as I understand it was fired not by Terry but by someone else, because it seems he prioritized his activities with the local Republican Party higher than his responsibility to his radio station.
In 1998, my wife and I had NOTHING. I had just lost my job and my home, we had a new baby, and I had to move back in with my grandparents. I couldn't find a job.
Then I found Terry again, after a lot of years. He picked me and my family up out of the gutter and got me back on my feet again. I learned digital editing, won an Addy, brought my skill set up to more than competitive levels, and when I was ready, I moved on to the next thing, in 2002. And I am still with that company today. I have been a small town PD with my current firm, and am now making pretty good coin as a production director and doing afternoon drive in my preferred format --oldies - in a rated market.
So you losers can hate on Terry all you want, but I'm here to tell you: that "evil dwarf" has gone farther in this business than any of you probably ever will, and you know what? I bet I do too, because I put more energy in improving myself than I do into hating on other people. Which is more than I can say for at least ONE person who used to work there, and no longer does. When he was let go for hating on people on the air, I learned of this while doing morning show prep for the station I was programming at the time.
Res ipsa loquitur.

Maybe you can now return the favor and let Mr. Simmons live in your Granparents basement? ;)

You miscounted. And alot of them are still in the building.

While a few fell off the radar, I'm sure, even they were at least where he was at the pinnacle of his career (Canton); others moved on into bigger markets and/or much higher paying jobs.

I appreciate your story. Gee, it's nice, and I guess you owe him a post here. Good for you. But as nice as your story is, apparently there are a more than a few folks with bad ones, and the plain truth is, there's nothing anyone can say to ruin the moment for them.

About Time Baby! :D

Tom Sullivan For PD

Hey pal. It should take you 1 second to figure out who I am. I just read the news about Terry. You and I last spoke early in 2005 before some very big storms named Katrina and Rita. Please e-mail me so we can get caught up! [email protected]
