I heard "Papa`s Got A Brand New Bag" by James Brown (1965) and "Devil With The Red Dress On" by Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels (1968) late this afternoon! Cool! I had never before heard 1960`s Oldies on Simon 98.7. Maybe, it is the start of alot more to come! We need a 1960`s Weekend on there!

No, ALOT of people around here have NOT given up on having an Oldies station!!! It is going to happen. For example, Atlanta, GA was without an Oldies station from Spring 2005-March 2008!!! The demand in Atlanta was high for a good Oldies station, but Cox and Cheap Channel had run Fox 97 and then Cool 105.7 into the ground be playing a VERY limited Oldies palylist (sometimes only 100 songs). Then, Citadel switched 100,000 watt Country WYAY-FM into True Oldies 106.7. The ratings have been very good, as the station has a 5,000 song plus Oldies playlist (along with The True Oldies Channel). Check out this great Oldies success story at www.wyay.com. As far as Simon 98.7 goes, they have really changed their playlist. Will they go allOldies, I don`t know. But, I do know that SOMEBODY in thismarket will be all-Oldies by the end of this summer. It is just a matter of time. It is very interesting about what I heard on Simon today, because these type of cool 1960`s songs have not been played on there.

Your numbers and comments are SO WRONG its beyond comical.

There is a real good reason that WYAY doesn't even break the Top 15 among Stations Persons 25-54 - and even worse Persons 18-49 - and @ that low, revenues are no where near a "success story"

If WYAY is a "great Oldies Success story" you are clearly delusional.

LOL!!! GTAGO is the Energizer Bunny....he keeps going and going and going..wearing you down until you drop back ten and punt. We had our war of attrition with him on the South Carolina board a year and a half ago. He's exhausting.

WKIX 850 is more 50s-and 60s-based oldies, while WKIX-FM (still marketed as Y102.9--the WKIX-FM call letters are only heard during top of the hour IDs along with simulcast partner WWMY 102.3 Goldsboro) leans more 70s.

OK guys, Goodtimegoldy might just be right. I have not heard it myself, but a buddy of mine who works in High Point says he heard them play "the Twist" today on 98.7!!!!! :p ::)   :'( :-X :p That is not a regular run of the mill recurrent on any station!!!!    ;D 8)

Here's the lock of the week: A new oldies station will debut next week on Thursday at 12:20 pm. It will start with stunting and flip officially within a couple of days!!!!! Write it down and enjoy.

Folks, the sixties music is all burnt out. Every song mentioned so far (and I admit there's only been 2 or 3) would have me ripping my radio out of the dash and ranting and raving. Let's give the sixties music a break. I listened to it and I played it on several legendary radio stations, and while I admit I'm not the typical listener, the music is old and has been played to death. Its the music of my youth, but its old. Playing music from that decade today, would be the same as playing music from 1910 - 1920 in the sixties. If the format is so great why did 94.1 change, why hasn't someone jumped on it? Could it be that the children of the sixties and their grandchildren who grew up listening are now filing for social security, checking out nursing homes, and being fitted for hearing aids and false teeth? Who do advertisers want to reach? Look at the demos! How easy of a sale would it be today? As Bogart said in that infamous movie "PLAY IT". If you want to hear it so badly, get an i-pod, get satellite radio, GET A LIFE ALREADY!

Ask a fifteen year old girl singing along, word for word, with HAPPY TOGETHER - "how do you know that song"?
And she says "I don't know, I just do!"

Some songs trancsend era or time. THOSE are the only sixties songs that are viable anymore on the radio.
You've got to know which ones they are, and how to play them with other eras to be successful.
Only a few stations do it well. WCBS-FM in New York is one of them.

I strongly disagree with 1960`s music being burned out- any many would agree that these great Oldies will never die!!! Maybe that listener is just "burned out" with life and doesn`t enjoy great music!! 1960`s music holds up better than 1970`s music and beats 1980`s and music and beyond hands down!! the 80`s stuff and after doesn`t hold up nearly as well as the 1960`s music!!! Great to hear that 98.7 is playing "The Twist" (1957)!!!!!!!! The Oldies seem to be really increasing on 98.7 Simon! I would not be surprised if they do All Oldies soon!!!!!!!!

The music isn't burnt out. The people that like it are just dying.

Folks, this Oldies music is ALIVE and well and is thriving in alot of markets. Go to www.wyay.com to hear the Oldies the way that they should be done here. Alot of young people LOVE the Oldies!

Alot of crazy hatred here......... Go to most restaurants, offices, hotels, etc. in a market wher a Good Oldies station is located.... You will hear the Oldies and folks of ALL ages loving it. Go to www.wyay.com and listen... If you don`t FEEL good by listening to this GREAT music, you ay be a check up! Oldies is RETURNING soon to the Triad on FM- It is just a matter of time- it is already happening on several station! THE OLDIES ARE COMING!!!!!

Reality is that a great song is not judged by its` age. Do you say that a Mozart Tune s SO 1780`s???? Of course not. Rock and Roll Oldies will never die... The music is too good.

Yeah...just look at Lawerence Welk - and all the Swing Bands - and the Jazz eras.

Great music - never dies.

But just like Mozart, Lawerence Welk, Swing Bands or Jazz - you don't find any radio stations programming it.

Hmmmm.....see a trend?

To the managing editor of "Radio-Info", while it's OK to post about certain topics, this "oldies" topic has ran it's course for now,
all of these should be re-located in relation to this.
