Simon Pontin's Replacement Named.

I'm amazed the D&C can afford to cover radio. Aren't they down to like two reporters at the Gannet Building?

I tend to think that WXXI sent them a prepared press release and perhaps someone from Gannett just called the radio station to interview Ms. Tremblay and others.

Years ago the D&C would never cover anything associated with the electronic media, let alone radio. However the newspaper and WXXI have had a working relationship for years on a few projects; most notably Voice of the Voter.

I see where someone commented on the newspaper website about Ms. Tremblay's performance as the morning host on WXXI-FM. Personally I think it was a bit harsh.

IMHO She's the only one in the building that may be able to pull it off. Simon had his rabid followers who will never be satisfied with any replacement.

Brenda was Simon's heir apparent back when I work at the station several years ago. So it came as no surprise to me when she took over the morning announcer's slot after Simon "retired". ::)

The only thing I found amusing was her being named "temporary announcer" or what ever stupid title they gave her, after Simon left.

The front office knew damn well she was going to get the job full-time, so why play games and pull such a transparent stunt with the public ?

Mark, you worked there as I did! It would have been news if they didn't ;D

What you are describing here is a "gimmick" many companies use so that they do not have to post a job opening.

Instead a company, in the case WXXI, names one of their current employees as " interim host" and then, after a few months, announces that this "interim host" did such a great job that this person gets to keep the job on a full time basis.
