Simon's "Pissed Off" At NBC's "Voice"

Simon Cowell says NBC's stretching the season premiere of their "American Idol" knockoff to three nights - including Wednesday night, when his "X Factor" debuts on Fox, is "a spoiling tactic... [NBC] don't want you to watch this show."

Of course Cowell has a strong interest in X-Factor what do you expect. Also Doesn't Cowell have Got Talent on NBC if that still running when X-Factor is on.

For someone who expects everyone else to have a thick skin, he sure is acting like a baby! Did he just realize that TV networks were in competition for viewers and that NBC would rather you tune in then watch Fox? What a landmark idea! Surely NBC just thought of this. If only they wouldn't have cancelled that failed medical drama "ER" after the first season so "Chicago Hope" could bask in all its glory. Gentleman's agreement. Pfft. Grow up, Simon Cowell.

It could just be that he realizes his shows are horrible in comparision to "The Voice", too.

Kudos to your response; however, The Voice is no better.

No Simon Cowell is trying to play the Apple Card. He is going after the Voice the same way Apple goes after Samsung. Cowell is trying to market X-Factor as his Ipad and is going after the Voice for playing the Samsung card. Heck American Idol and Pop Idol are Cowells Apple II and Got Talent is supposed to be his Macintosh. You are supposed to look at him as the Reality show's answer to Steve Jobs or J. Craig Venter(Biotech Pioneer).

"Heck, 'American Idol' and 'Pop Idol' are Cowell's App£e II, whilst 'Got Talent' is supposed to be his Macinto$h. You are supposed to look at him as unscripted TV's answer to $teve Job$."

*That* probably explains why his shows are a total waste of tape and nearly always excruciating to watch for longer than two minutes at a time! Badabing.

Since the first year of American Idol, I have watched neither the Cowell produced shows or The Voice. They just don't interest me. But having said that - you can't copyright an idea. Cowell's shows weren't even original ideas - if you look back to the 50s and 60s, there were similar shows - Ted Mack's Amateur Hour, and others. In the 80s, there was Star Search. So...granted, The Voice is a copy of Cowell's earlier British and American shows, but his shows copied liberally from shows in previous decades.

The Amateur Hour started on radio in the 30s with a host named Major Bowes. Mack took it over in 1948 on TV.

I see where you are coming from Its Like KOFY-TV 20 in San Francisco has a local show called Dance Party but its based on Dick Clark's American Bandstand.

One good thing about all those shows.....they air either on Fox or NBC. Both terrible networks.

Teen dance shows are a good analogy. I don't know if American Bandstand was the first - it may have been. But there were hundreds of imitators. In the 1960s, all major media markets had local versions. Growing up in LA at that time, there was Lloyd Thaxton on KCOP 13, Shebang! on KTLA (Casey Kasem), Groovy (Robert W. Morgan) on KHJ-TV, and 9th Street West later renamed Boss City to connect it to KHJ radio (Sam Riddle, The Real Don Steele).

I got a chance to watch Lloyd Thaxton while in the Navy in Long Beach in 1963. He was a hoot and aired a lot of comedy in addition to the dance program hosting. I still have two recordings he made:

"My Name Is Lloyd Thaxton" (he used to say this on-air to which the audience would retort "SO WHAT!"

"Image Of A Surfer" describing what a true blue surfer dude of the early 60's goes through.

Lloyd died just a few years ago but I believe his web site is still up:

Then what was ABC's Duets (a summer series that featured inaugural American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson)? HP?
