....in Philadelphia, at least.
While visiting family in South Jersey last week, I attended a couple of Phillies games at Citizens Bank Park (one of the coolest parks in the majors, in my opinion!)
I noticed that on Friday evening, the game was on WIP, instead of the Phils usual home of 50 kw WPHT. My brother explained that WPHT didn't want to pre-empt Sid Mark's "Friday With Frank" - the venerable 2 hour Sinatra show, so the Friday games are always carried on the sister station.
For once, a standards program is given priority and not brushed aside for something else. A radio station has said that Sid Mark's weekly gem is more important than a major sporting event. Isn't it interesting that this little nod in favor of our much-beleagured format has come on a talk station, of all things?
Bravo to Sid Mark, and bravo to Philly's "Big Talker" WPHT!

p.s. WIP's image voice guy needs to learn to say "double-you" instead of "dubby-ew!" Ken Garland must be rolling his eyes up there in radio heaven!
