Since Jack and Rock 93.9's days appear to be numbered...

...who will pick up their formats? I look for 100.9 to pick up the rock format (and with the WJXN calls, perhaps calling themselves the X?) and for 105.1 to pick up the variety hits format (but not under the Jack name). Or it could be vice versa; perhaps, maybe even another player that we don't see.

Nobody has mentioned it, but what will happen to WHJT 93.5. They took a hit when KLove came to town. Its not going to help them much having to compete with a 100,000 watt Klove and Air 1 jammed next to them on the dial.

I thought about that too, but given that Mississippi College owns them, I think they'll either stick with it or change to some other form of religious programming. I don't see them changing to anything non-religious, even though it had been a soft-rock station in the 80s.

They could switch to Southern gospel. but since that format is mainly listened to by older people I doubt the college kids would care about it. and there isn't very many southern gospel station around anymore, closest one is in Forrest. I would like to hear a more traditional or "adult" sounding christian music station. Klove is OK, but seems like every time I turn it on I hear a group called "Third Day" or someone who sounds exactly like them. Its almost like Third Day is becoming the "Nickelback" of Christian radio. Way to much airplay.

I was just thinking...92.1, 92.5, 93.5, 93.9, 94.7 and 95.5 are all lined up next to each other and all of them have some sort of religious programming.

and depending on where you live there is 89.1 Moody Radio, AFR 89.5, AFR 90.5, 90.7 The Effect (assuming its still around) in Raymond, 91.7 CSN, 92.7 (Jena, La translator) and probally a few more.

And if you are in Forest, you won't hear WHJT but instead K-Love at 93.5 out of Meridian and then K-Love and Air1 at 93.9 and 94.7 then 95.5 out of Jackson. WQST-FM's Transmitter is about 1-2 miles down the road and is the strongest as well as 89.1 in Lake and all the AFR frequencies elsewhere in the area. I would not be surprised to see 100.9 be retained as what they did with 98.9 and 93.5 in the Meridian area. This way they have a strong signal that can go beyond Jackson as far as it will reach and will reach into areas that 100.9 can't reach.

It would make good sense from their standpoint to have the same programming on 93.9 and 100.9 since they both cover areas that the other one doesn't and let 94.7 stand alone since it covers the same areas as both of the other stations. Who knows what they will do, but it's be nice to see K-Love move from 100.9 to the more powerful 94.7 and see Air 1 on 100.9/93.9.

94.7 has pretty good audio. I wonder if they are going to mess up the audio like they did on 100.9. 100.9 is too loud. bordering on distortion. Many of todays CD's are already heavily compressed, and when they are compressed even more at the station its just way too much.

I can tell changes are afoot at Jack. Usually around this time of year, they would announce that the Jack jackpot would take a break around Christmas and return after the new year. This time, there is no such announcements and they've been playing flashbacks of listeners winning the jackpot.

The license assignments from Backyard Broadcasting to EMF have been approved. What they are waiting for is the authorization to turn Rock 93.9 to Air1 and JackFM to K-Love and approvals to move the Studios outside of Jackson and all the technical details to link up the stations to their respective California studios. It will not be very long until these apps get approved.

Since K-Love and Air 1 are piped in from satelite, will there be anyone working in the building anymore? Jack was already on auto-pilot so I wouldn't think too many people worked there anyhow. Who will be minding the store? Just an engineer?

One thing I didn't mention is that Rock 939 will exist as an internet-only station via their website, rock939.com. Jack's Facebook message tells listeners to tune into the original Jack FM.

This is what the FCC has given to the big boys with the money and left you with nothing for OTA broadcast. It's just the money buying what they want. They can pay the regulatory fees.

What should be the last song played? "Hit the Road Jack"? "The Party's Over", "Closing Time"?
Maybe "The End" by the doors, since that was WZZQ's last song. My guess is they will end without fanfare.
