FM took off at a much higher rate than HD. It's been 7 years since the first HD signed on in my market, and nobody listens to HD yet. You don't have to buy a new transmitter for web streaming, but many stations have to buy a new transmitter to broadcast in HD.

I listen to WYSP-HD2 on the 2s! There's lots of places where 94.1-HD2 comes in crystal clear when 1060AM has nothing but buzzing.
We're all involved in radio on this board, hence we have HD radios or know about it. The average person would hear rock music on 94.1, IBUZ on 93.9 and 94.3, and static on 1060. That doesn't do KYW any good.

Huh? What are you talking about?

Do you know how long it took FM to "take off"?

Why do you post things you (apparently) know nothing about?

Before this ends up in Take It Outside like the Boston HD thread did, can we all agree to play nice in the sandbox? I don't know where Nick got that idea from....where DID you get that info from anyways Nick?

I'm sure there were people who didn't want to go stereo on FM in the early days because of fringe reception issues, or adding RDS because of the reduction in available audio modulation, or something else. Technology scares some people - some tend to view computers as magic boxes full of gnomes and fairy dust instead of MACHINES...and treat them as such and think that black magic must be involved somehow to make them work.

Is IBOC perfect? Not by a long shot, especially on AM. But it is what we have, and the technology will continue to improve. Look at how cell phones, ISP's, and MP3 players have evolved over the past decade.

Now back to aiming my yagi with the Channel Master preamp to null out B101 to pull in CBS-FM....

I am a firm believer in HD and I like the potential it has. Maybe the main reason is I hate what is on the T-band...I have Satellite in the car and at home....also many other music sources from computer to cable to satellite tv. But when I am on the go I like to take my portable HD radio with me....Granted the reception is horrible but at least there are other formats to listen to and its all free....When stations increase their power on HD and more formats become available and the HD-3 is used more, then I think it will take off..added formats could be Country Classics on XTU-3, 50's on OGL-3, 90's on BEB-3, Heavy Metal on MMR-3, Punk-Grunge on RFF-3....just my 1/2 cent worth...

In our area, WPEN-FM, WRAT, WSOU, and WBLS are running at elevated power levels. WJRZ has been approved to run at -14, but I haven't noticed any signal improvement like in 2007 when they were testing. Haven't read about any complaints so far - KRTH is a odd situation since it's one of the grandfathered B's...maybe a compromise would be to crank down the upper sidebands power?
