Since your boss won't tell you...

(My new pet peeve)

...I will. When you air a request, let the caller ask for the song BEFORE you start playing it. Playing the song before the caller asks for it doesn't make you sound clairvoyant and clever, it makes you sound sloppy. It would be the same as an actor on stage saying "Honey, answer the phone" before the phone rings. Timing. Thank you.

Request? I didn't know they still did that on radio (Joke). I thought that was outlawed by corporate beancounters, or at least the humans that used to fufill them LOL!

Sadly, Rob, I believe that almost all of the songs are demanded not requested by the programmers of corporate radio. I wish radio was like it was when you got started. I used to love hearing improvised requests over the air and the DJ wondering if he or she could find it in the station's audio library. I'm afraid that those days are over. Thanks for all the years you've devoted to radio and your work at Wilkerson Sound Studios.

Thanks! You know, I know, and the listeners know it's all a setup. All I am saying is, for those to whom it may apply, for the sake of what art and beauty is left, at least pretend to care about presentation. I'm just a voice in the wilderness crying "Hey pal, your fly's open." What the pal in question decides to do with his/her own fly is their own choice.

Well, I don't know....I believe if you call our local classic rock station here in Knoxville (WIMZ) and request "Free Bird" and sound redneck enough you'll get on the air with your request played immediately.

I was thinking about this thread today when I heard the dj on 97.1 here in Nashville play back a phoned-in listener request this morning. I heard "Gimme Some Lovin'" by the Spencer Davis Group warming up in the background while she was playing back this call. Imagine my surprise when the caller asked for Elton John! His name was Jeff. A couple of songs later, she did, indeed, play some Elton John, and even mentioned that it was for caller Jeff!
