Sinclair’s Pruett lays out vision for nationally distributed news platform

We live in a time when anyone can have a national news platform. Anyone from the owner of a low power TV station in Michigan to a group of TV stations in Baltimore. Anyone who chooses to do it can do it. The question is does anyone else want your content? These days, the content itself is available for free anywhere. It depends on what you want. If you want some conservative commentator talking about politics, you can make a deal with a local talk show host. Some TV stations have already done that. This company will find out it's easier to force stations you own to carry something than to get non-owned stations to do the same. Because the non-owned stations can do it themselves too.

I think WGN-A will be a platform for at least some Sinclair News programming once the Tribune merger is complete.

They can brand whatever content they put on WGN-A as Circa. My guess is that they're focusing on completing the merger and avoiding anything that might create more noise regarding additional news distribution until its complete. I would think that for all of the effort they've put forth to create and establish Circa as a brand that it would be leveraged.

WGN America will have 3 hours of opinion show I may watch Grata from time to time as she is petty good anchor very fair & balance if she signs with Sinclair.

Greta would be a curious choice since she already flamed out on MSNBC. O'Reilly is doing a weekly show on Newsmax, but I'm betting he could get out of it. I see WGN featuring Sharyl Atkisson, at a minimum providing national carriage of her Sunday show, and maybe putting her in weekday prime time. I think they may still make a move for O'Reilly but he needs to be realistic about a salary. It would give him the best opportunity to stick it to FNC. He'd beat Carlson easily. He'll lose against Hannity, but would likely pull enough away to make Maddow the #1 show if they hire and put him at 9. Not likely as he'd be best at his old 8PM slot. This merger will soon be a reality, so we should soon know.

I bet Sinclair passes on cable news and puts their news channel on their owned stations as a sub-channel to get into more homes.

There's no reason why they can't do both. Although sub-channels wouldn't get them more viewers. At least not now.
