Sinclair And Bally’s Rebrand RSN’s

The Former Fox Sports Regionals are going to be renamed as Bally Sports.

Pinball, definitely. But to anyone under 40, or maybe 45, the name means nothing. Do they plan to pronounce it with a short "a," as it should be, or as "bawly," to give it some kind of sports connection through "ball"?

Unless they gamble. They own 7 casinos.
But only one of them bears the Bally's name (Atlantic City, NJ).

I had never heard of Bally when this deal with Sinclair was announced. Not much of a gambler, and I've never been to Jersey.

Sounds like their intent is to connect sports media with sports gambling:

Bally’s President-CEO, said: “Rolling out Bally’s iconic logo across Sinclair’s regional sports networks is a rewarding first step in a transformational partnership that is going to revolutionize the U.S. sports betting, gaming and media industries.

If you happen to be a cable or AT&T-owned service subscriber. Everyone else is out of luck. Here in Phoenix, that means only about 40-45% of the market (Cox + DirecTV + AT&T Now). Other areas are probably similar. Sinclair is being stubbornly stupid and greedy.

The new apps should be rolling out just prior to the start of Baseball Season on April 1. All sorts of questions there. Will it be just for '"particating cable subscribers" or will anyone have access for a monthly or yearly subscription? And will there be a shared schedule between Bally Sports (Local Name Here) and Sinclair owned stations, and others in non-Sinclair markets?

For the first time last night while watching a major league game, I noted they put the Bally's logo up on the screen and mentioned that both the 2 local Fox Sports channels would be rebranded Bally's on March 31. I still remember when they were just smaller more or less independent sports channels and were folded into the Fox Sports brand. Aside from the logo and branding, not much changed back then, they retained the same on-air talent, etc.

To be frank, I'm looking forward to the change, because Fox has been using the same music and graphics when going in and out of commercial breaks, etc. for years. Definitely time for a refresh.

During the breaks, while watching Redwings, Pistons I have seen the promos for Bally Sports new name same teams. Fox Sports whatever city hasn't been updated at least Fox Sports Detroit since March 20 largely just final scores from about a week ago and about the rebrand.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the Bally Sports Network uses the same music and graphics as when Fox Sports had with the RSN's. I can't wait to see the new graphics and music on Wed.

Fox will want their music back.

Have not heard the new music yet, but the on air "Bug" is an almost Invisible white signature Bally's "B" in the upper right corner of the screen!

I'm watching an NBA game now on this, the first day of "Bally Sports" having taken over the former "Fox Sports" channels. All the graphics packages got a refresh, as did the music going in and out of breaks. I also appreciate that they show a nearly constant feed of scores from around the league and other sporting events. Overall the graphics look like they put more funding and time into designing them them vs. the ones that had been in use by Fox Sports.

One thing that does look a bit cheesy is that, rather than the game and shot clocks being part of the on-screen graphics as was the case with Fox Sports, they're showing live video of the scoreboard and shot clocks in small boxes next to the score. The colors are off between the two (game clock is a yellow-white and is a little crooked while the shot clock is almost orange). To be frank, it looks like a throwback to a few decades ago when that was somewhat standard practice. The only time Fox showed a live video of the game clocks like that was when there was an issue with the interface between the arena's controls and the nework's graphics generator. Another thing I miss is that Fox used to show the number of timeouts remaining just under the score, and also showed if teams were in bonus situation. That's not displayed on the Bally offering.

On air talent is the same for now, etc.

Watching the same NBA team play tonight on Bally Sports. The game and shot clocks are now embedded in the graphics. Also, they are showing the number of timeouts and the Bonus flags, they just don't have them displayed at all times as Fox Sports did. In other words, all the concerns I noted in my 2nd paragraph above must've just been "opening night" issues yesterday.

Seeing the highlights on EPSN. The constant score ticker in the bug would drive me nuts. Plus I hate the full width graphics.
