Sinclair Broadcasting Group

With Sinclair globing up tv stations across the country. Will Sinclair starts it's own TV network in the future?

IMO unlikely. They'd have to drop affiliations on many of their stations for an unproven venture. They'd also need a television studio partner to get the venture off the ground. All the major studios are already aligned with a network. Sony Pictures Television might do business with them, but one single studio can't supply all the programming for an entire network.

But, it's an interesting proposal to think about. What would it be called? STN (Sinclair Television Network)?

is there room for 2 conservative news channels? The Fox bots are loyal and huge in numbers, but old

A Sinclair News Channel could be carried on an OTA subchannel of Sinclair's many O&O's, with some material being used on the main channel. Also could be offered to other broadcast stations/groups, with the option to excerpt for local newscasts. So not necessarily cable.

Actually, My Network TV did it when it began in 2006...

That was a different situation. Fox made MyNet to plug the hole on their UPN stations that were soon to be left without a network. Sinclair would have to drop whatever network is currently on the stations they want to use as a backbone for the new network.

Also, Fox is Fox. Sinclair would still need a television studio partner.

A traditional Big 3 network might be hard to achieve, but Sinclair COULD its own network of sorts. They could:

1. corner the market on the syndicated shows they want, creating something of add-on to whatever affiliation each station already has
2. Create a .2 network with some combination of syndicated, first-run and news programming.
3. Create a news network for .2 with some programs available for .1 channels.

Why buy a .2 from someone else if you can create your own and keep all the ad revenue for yourself?

Any combination could also give them leverage when the network wants more reverse compensation from their stations.

Yes, the numbers do support at least two conservative networks. For every five Americans, there's two conservative, two independent, and one liberal. With the liberal audience stretched thin among several networks and leaving Fox with a bigger audience, going conservative is a good move.

An OTA news network to replace The Cool TV on Sinclair HD .2 stations. Add in local news inserts/replays and local weather. I like that idea. They could pick and choose stories from local Sinclair newsrooms across the country to fill a significant amount of time on the channel. Could this be done cheap?

If they think they can start up NEWSCENTRAL format again for all local newscast. Think again, people wants local news they'll watch local news, if they want national news, then they'll flip to national news channels. Mixing up with both like the old Newscentral format have proven a failure.

Not true. That had the backing of 20th Century Fox (Albeit very little). Who do you think produced the telenovelas?

Cheers & 73 ;D
