Sinclair Buys Tennis Media Co.

Sinclair all in on Tennis I was wrong I thought that Sinclair was going to rebrand Tennis Channel to ASN looks I like was way off on that one.

It's hard to discern why Sinclair sees value in these tennis related assets.

Maybe execs there feel a resurgence of interest in the sport coming on. As a fan myself, I can tell you that American men are making it into the later rounds of more and more tournaments, led by Jack Sock, a definite rising star, and Ryan Harrison, and there are American women with the potential to do the same once Serena finally retires. The men's game is very strong overall with Djokovic and Murray at the top and Nadal and Federer still capable of top-notch play. The women's game, not so much, especially to American viewers bored by the Williams sisters and unable to distinguish among the Europeans who otherwise dominate the rankings. Personally, I think Sinclair is wiser to be investing in tennis than in golf at this point, and it can do so at a much lower cost.

Certainly several plausible basis's of rationale for the decision. I don't think golf would be a wise investment at all, I'm just not convinced that tennis is either.

Sam Querrey, American, beat Rafael Nadal in straight sets to take the Mexican Open on Saturday night. Not a major, but some big money at stake and several highly-ranked players involved.
