Sinclair in Des Moines

With all the recent news of Sinclair shutting newsrooms, I've heard a rumor that KDSM/FOX 17 Des Moines is expanding their news dept. How is that able to happen with all the cost cutting in the company?

The current situation at KDSM: They do a half hour of news at 9, produced by sister station KGAN in Cedar Rapids and aired in both markets. According to the rumor I'm hearing, KDSM plans to disband from KGAN because of all the turmoil going on. KDSM would then do its own thing from Des Moines and expand their 9pm show to an hour and start a morning show.

Anybody know anything about what's going on? If that's true, that would be great for the Des Moines market.

My guess is that Sinclair will not produce the newscast, and will contract with one of the other network affiliates in Des Moines to produce it for them.

That's Sinclair's general MO, especially with "NewsCentral" nearly dead. Though they do have some in-house news operations, I don't see them mounting one in Des Moines.
