Sinclair Media Buys Seven More Stations

http://www.rbr.com/tv-cable/tv_deal...even-tv-stations-in-four-market-breaking.html

Coming in the acquisition are:
* KUTV (CBS 2) Salt Lake City, Utah (DMA 32)
* KMYU (MNT 9) Salt Lake City, Utah (DMA 32)
* KEYE (CBS 42) Austin, Texas (DMA 44)
* WTVX (CW 34) West Palm Beach/Fort Pierce, Florida (DMA 38)
* WTCN-CA (MNT 50) West Palm Beach/Fort Pierce, Florida (DMA 38)
* WWHB-CA (AZTECA 48) West Palm Beach/Fort Pierce, Florida (DMA 38)
* WLWC (CW 28) Providence, Rhode Island/New Bedford, Massachusetts (DMA 53)

I can't believe I'm saying this...but at this point being bought by Sinclair if you're stuck being managed by Nexstar (all of these were Four Points stations managed by them) is an actual improvement because they actually have websites and on-air graphics technology actually designed after 1999 (and web addresses that actual pertain to the station's calls).

Will they now drop or outsource local news on the CBS stations like Sinclair has done in St Louis?

No chance of that happening; KUTV is a strong #2 in their market while the Austin stations usually stay close in the ratings. Remember, KDNL in St. Louis is a very unique and rare case, and usually Sinclair runs news on all their network affiliates beyond the few unfixable disasters they have.

KMYU (was ch. 12, now digital 9) is NOT in Salt Lake City, though technically it's "in the market". No, it's in St. George - which is 305 miles southwest of St. George. In Salt Lake City, KUEN is the one that maps to channel 9.

KMYU is seen in Salt Lake (and in most of UT) thanks to its feed being provided as a subchannel (2.2) on KUTV's main signal. It's originating signal from St. George is only available in Washington and Iron Counties (and around Littlefield, AZ/Mesquite, NV), to my knowledge. Just wanted to make that correction because I saw KMYU-9 Salt Lake City and thought "huh?"
