Sinclair selling KOMO, KVI & KPLZ

They're radio owners. That deal with Sinclair was the friggin deal of the century. From a business perspective, it was a huge win-win.
Buying a Hot AC that’s seen better days, an all-newser that needs a new identity outright and an also-ran conservatalker is the “friggin deal of the century”? I was born on a Wednesday but not this past Wednesday.

Since you don't understand the radio biz, allow me to make it simple: They bought three full market radio properties in a top twenty market for a lot less than just what 1000AM and the rimshot FM that goes along with it, is worth.

Pretty apparent you don't know much about radio as a business. It costs a ton of money to change formats/rebrand. The former KOMO wasn't a huge cash cow, but there are all-news stations that are. I believe up front, an official from Lotus mentioned they were committed to continuing news on 1000kHz. You may not take them at their word, but some of us have no reason to doubt them. Maybe give them a chance. Now get off my lawn!
Kelly, the great thing about listening to the radio for free: In Seattle alone, there are over 70 stations for you to critique. And Nathan Obral is doing just that. Can he do that without being sniped at, "Pretty apparent you don't know much about radio as a business." Or is it only your opinion that matters? And please elaborate on how you know so much about the radio business to be faultless? I get the impression that there are a couple of you here that think your s*** doesn't stink and you spend your time here berating those that disgree with you. That makes this discussion board an unfriendly place.

Opinions are like you know what. Everyone has one. However, it seems to feel very uptight here recently. Relax. It is about a business that most of us are not part of anymore. Let it be, and unless you are working for one of these companies and have inside knowledge then your opinion is borderline worthless. And though I worked in radio in the Seattle market for over 12 years, I include my posts as part of that.

" Something" has changed since the KNWN calls were assigned to 1000. At this point anything can happen. The fact that the new website is redirecting to KVI, does not make sense unless KVI and KNWN will be switching call letters and who knows what else, formats maybe? It's exciting to see what might transpire.

I haven't listened today, are the FM calls still KOMO?

25 years in the business here. Everyone has an opinion, but the condescending tones and patronizing attitudes at this discussion board is stifling. If that is what revs your engine, so be it.

570 and 1000 have almost identical daytime coverage. At night the 50kw of AM 1000 out perform. But the point is that maybe the news format on 570, first station on the AM dial, makes sense.

Lol “since you don’t understand the radio business” (I’ve posted here and on other places regarding radio and TV since 2004) and yet you didn’t really provide justification for your “deal of the century” line.

Look, I can be nice but your continuing condescension is extremely off-putting.

There’s a reason why people who work in the industry are not easily wanting to divulge anything, especially if they are working in confidence. Heck, I know several people who work in the industry and they speculate and prognosticate just like everyone else. That’s what makes places like this fun.

You know what? We as listeners have little control of what these stations do. Yes we can listen or not but that is the extent of our limited power. KOMO will do what they want, they can change calls, change formats, whatever. Ratings are important but 99.7 percent of listeners don’t have a vote.

This. Speaking from experience on building websites and pushing them live, a thousand times this.

And that “NWNewsRadio” … logo …
Wow. You can make better logos than that with Cooltext. Looks painfully rushed. Hopefully it's just a placeholder in the design. The whole WordPress thing isn't giving me good vibes either.

KOMO/KNWN has a freaking spectacular signal. Picked it up nice and clear on the Kiwi SDRs in Norway and Hawaii.

I don't intend to be condensing, but your opinions are very telling. Don't care for the station's format execution? Fair enough. Don't like their new personalities? Fair enough. Wished they would flip to Spanish language? Fair enough. Don't like Sinclair's programming of KOMO-TV? Fair enough.
As someone working professionally in this business, it's difficult to read a narrative though which include business-related assumptions about a company or organization that are not based on facts or insider knowledge, let alone of how this business works. As David mentioned in another thread, it amounts to being called to the carpet for spreading false information or conspiracy's on line. Spreading misinformation in any formum isn't opinion, it's spreading misinformation.

I find your opinions and attitudes towards myself and others very telling as well. Accusing me of spreading misinformation is extremely insulting, and something tells ms that you would disregard anything I offer as citations because of personal narratives and prejudices. Even if I were to be totally pedantic and cited every word in my posts.

I’m not in the mood to continue arguing.
