SINCLAIR SELLS ANOTHER STATION IN SPRINGFIELD, MA

to James Gormally for $21.5 million. What other unprofitable stations that Sinclair could be selling next? Sinclair still owns CBS affilates that had been owned by Guy Gannett Communications in Portland, ME & Cedar Rapids, & ABC stations in Champaign/Decatur & Springfield, IL. & those stations should likely be selling next. Sinclair stations that are affiliated with ABC in Greenville/Asheville, Columbus, OH, Mobile/Pensacola & Charleston, W.V. all have duopolies & wouldn't be selling their stations anytime soon, unless they want. But I think Sinclair will focus more on stations that are either affilated with Fox, CW & the My Network, but it won't signal the end of the group. But stay tuned...

The new owner of WGGB-TV 40 is a Springfield-area magazine publisher, which brings back local ownership in that market for the first time in many years - I think since WWLP 22 was sold to Benedek about 10 years ago.

Link: Springfield Republican

Don't hate me for saying this, but local ownership of a network affiliate in a small market like Springfield may not be such a great idea. He may be willing to spend more money on the station locally, but may also have less of it to spend than a comapny like Sinclair.

WWLP-TV (NBC) channel 22 of Springfield, MA is owned by LIN Television, the same owners as WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 and WCTX-TV (MY) channel 59, both of New Haven, CT.

Please Sinclair - Sell KDNL in St. Louis! ABC affiliate with no likely hope for a duoply. A couple of nights ago they were preempting prime-time programming to show Infomercials.

Anytime they'll pre-empt a show not because of sexual content or explicit language (or in that case, when Saving Private Ryan is on the schedule), they'll do it anyway.

Have you seen Channel 40? There is nowhere to go but up for that station.
