Sinclair Telecable's WTAR 850/96.5 FM Stunting

Sinclair Telecable's WTAR 850/96.5 FM is playing construction sounds in between a continuous loop of Justin Timberlake's "Sexy Back." I tuned in around 4:10 this afternoon and initially thought it was just some bumper music the sports station was playing, but quickly realized otherwise. What do you think they're up to?

If WTAR has dropped sports, Hampton Roads still has Max Media's ESPN outlet which is on a full-power FM frequency and has higher ratings.

I listened to the new Lucy FM briefly this evening. They play today's hits with a few throwbacks here and there. Other than "Pony" by Ginuwine and "Mmmbop" by Hanson, I didn't recognize anything. I'd love to hear the opinion of someone in the target demographic.

Well that didn't last long! According to RadioInsight, Sinclair Telecable has flipped 96.5 Lucy-FM from Hot AC after just over six months and very poor ratings. RI says that Sinclair has brought back the old "Coast" brand along with the Triple A format that used to be featured on sister station 93.7 back in the day. (BTW we're talking about 850, it's two translators that both sit at 96.5 FM as well as an HD2 at 106.1.)

Stream audio is in mono - understandable since originating station is an AM powering 2 translators.
I have heard other AM station music streams in stereo, however. Will see if this changes for the WTAR stream...

First song listed on playlist under new format was "Evergreen" by Mt. Joy at 8:21 AM Mon. 3/20/2023.
There might have been a pre-recorded segment (stunt? announcement?) between 7 AM and 8:20 AM.
Last song listed on playlist under old format was "my ex's best friend" by Machine Gun Kelly & blackbear at 6:57 AM on Mon. 3/20/2023.
