Has anyone heard anything about Sinclair shutting down it's news operation in Las Vegas??

If the story is true, does anyone know when it will be shut down, and will the local newscast be replaced by one produced by another local TV station in town??

Sinclair has two newscasts running: KFBT "Gold 33 News At Seven" and KVWB-21 "WB Las Vegas News At Ten", neither of which is doing any business.

If both are shuttered, which may happen by the end of March, Sinclair probably will not replace the 7pm show with another newscast. The 10pm show already faces already stiff competition from KVVU-Fox 5, and a 10pm show on UPN-25 produced by market gorilla KLAS-8-CBS.

Your statement that KLAS is the "market gorilla" is bit misleading. KLAS and KVBC (NBC) are neck and neck in the race for first. The two have been playing ping-pong with the ratings title over the past several books. Each station has strengths and weaknesses in various dayparts.

By the way, the UPN news produced by KLAS is getting the same 1 rating as WB. If Sinclair is going to get someone to produce news for them, I would think it would be KVBC. KTNV's ratings aren't strong enough in their own time slots to produce a product for someone else.
