I'd have to say that she was too young to qualify, in that I never heard of her before "Funny Girl" in 1964 although she was starting to become famous in 1961.
Re Mamie Van Doren... the Washington Beltway has a Van Dorn (not Van Doren) Street interchange. Whenever I see that street name on a map of that part of the DMV, I think of Mamie Van Doren.

Did a nice tribute to Steve Friday on my show, spinning a couple of his 45s. While there are a couple fellows from his era left (like Mathis) there aren't many.
