This is XEX which is known as "Estadio W" (in other words, "Stadium W") which is the sports station of Televisa Radio, who own heritage XEW as well.

Phonetically, it is something like Ess-tah-dee-oh dough-blay-uhoo.

While supposedly a 100 kw operation, it is reported to be running only 50 kw.

quite a signal! looking at a map, if it wasn't for the gulf, we would be right on top of mexico.
i miss listening to canadan radio stations at night. CBC on 740 toronto was one of them

CBC has not been on 740 in Toronto for around a decade. They went to FM, and the AM frequency was licenced to a private entity.

It may not be running 50KW, but it puts a solid signal into Houston almost every night, as do 900, 1050 and 1570, all of which are also from Mexico.

prob directional. i wonder if any 1KW stations on 730 have to go dark @ night.

XEX is non-directional. All the US has to protect the Mexican and Canadian rights to 730, as by treaty that is a joint US and Mexican clear channel.

Yes they do, even ghost stations, so to speak. This may no longer be the case, but earlier in this decade WJYM/730 in Bowling Green, Ohio had to protect a station designated for Leamington, Ontario, across Lake Erie an hour or so, that wasn't even on the air. The result was a signal directional that you couldn't hear WJYM until you were within sight of the towers.
It blasts to the south, into Dayton and Columbus, but is hardly received in Michigan only 20 miles away.
