Sinking like a stone

No it doesn't. As long as they're maintaining good numbers in the demo they're targeting they're OK. However I do believe the changes made a few months ago have probably hurt them somewhat.

The REAL story of the Winter book is 98 Rock. THIS STATION IS DONE. Seriously... you mean to tell me that while the entire Skip show on US103.5 was shown the door this week that NO ONE at WXTB is being held accountable for a 1.8 Winter book??? I'll be real honest here and someone is welcome to disagree... If CC would simply cut everyone at 98 Rock and simply simulcast WFLA on 97.9, they would not only save by cutting every salary at WXTB, but would probably INCREASE the ratings and in turn revenue for a 970/97.9 WFLA simulcast.

Other things I see....

Cox seems to keep chugging along with a well thought out sales position... 3 stations skew female, while 3 skew male targeting ages 18 all the way up to 54. From a sales perspective, you've gotta offer audience for whoever your client wants to target. They may be a bit weak on the young female or urban audiences but overall they've all the bases covered.

WSJT is holding up after going satellite 24 hours a day.
Mix will never beat Magic.
92.5 is hanging but is it profitable? I'd be curious to see they're books.

Q is sinking 12+. Does that meaning anything?

Nobody really buys 12+. It's more 25-54. As long as a radio station is delivering to their target audience, who cares about 12+.

I wonder how many times that line has been written. "NOBODY BUYS 12+. IT'S MORE 25-54".
And I wonder why 12+ numbers are even published. It's meaningless and stupid. Most people truly don't understand how "The Book" even works and why it's more important to do well in your demo with adults, rather than 12+. 8)

1) Since they're a worthless breakdown of the survey (meaning nobody uses them to sell advertising, no ad buyer consults them to make a decision on where to buy advertising, etc...) Arbitron doesn't lose any money by giving out this excerpt of their research for free.

2) Bragging rights for stations and their staffs. To say you're number one overall sounds pretty cool... even if it's not a trait ad buyers care anything about. You may be the biggest biller in the market due to topping the list in M18-34, but trumpetting your success in a single slice of the population in a station promo would sound dumb and possibly alienate people outside that demo.

"Today Best Music! Thanks to all you men between the ages of 18 and 34! We're you're most listened to station! Women, middle-aged folks and old people... piss off! And you teenagers who love our poppy bubble-gum music: We only pretend we like you. You really are of no value to us!"

Might not work too well.

All that gobbledygook and nobody even mentions 98 Rock's 18-34 or 25-54 ratings breakout. Focus, people. BillAlm has a good idea though, simulcast 970 AM on 97.9 FM. That'll save big money in staff salaries and multiply WFLA's already considerable audience.

RBQ is a joke. Listened this afternoon and the jock sounded like he was doing a bad spoof of 70's top 40. WTF?

I have been listening to JoJo Kincaid in the afternoon and he has all of this energy like the jocks back in the 70's had. I enjoy it!

i concur with mr. smith. As a child of the '70s, kincaid is the kind of jock i listened to growing up, the kind of air personality that made me want to get into radio. He sounds like he's having fun and how many radio guys do you hear these days sound like they are having fun? not many.

I hate to admit it , but so is TK. He can puke into an intro with the best of the 70"s. Of course JoJo Kincaid and TK were Top 40 jocks on some important stations back then.

The Jock that can recreate that 60's style is Terry "motormouth" Young on XM radio. He has it down pat. Even Pat St. John who was a big name on big stations back then doesnt have it any longer

Terry was on Big Lee in Richmond after Shane went to Buffalo NY and WKBW. His sister is Rita Bentley who was on WRVEEEQ in its glory days
