Sioux City AM changes?

Reported on Northpine.com:

"What's next for KWSL/1470 (Sioux City)? The all-sports station is announcing that FOX Sports Radio is moving to sister Clear Channel station KMNS/620."

Anyone know?

A little hard to believe CC would pull the plug on the talk format now on 620. Although it hasn't put KSCJ out of business, it must do ok with Rush and maybe with Imus. And it can't be all that expensive, since it's almost all syndicated.

Maybe the talk is moving to 1470, putting them closer on the dial to 1360-KSCJ?

My first reaction was perhaps Big Sports 590 is pulling in the Sioux City listeners? You move Fox Sports to a stronger signal of 620 and with 620 already having Husker Football, you keep the listners in market.

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong about that. Apparently the talk is gone, the sports talk right now is simulecast on 1470 and 620... and Limbaugh is back on 1360-KSCJ!

Who knows that will be on 1470... they've had almost every format over the years (some more than once) since they ran out of gas as a top 40 station.

Well in a SHOCKING move....1470 is now going to be a SPANISH format station. Sioux City has 10 percent hispanic population. How long this format will last is anyone's guess. KSCJ got ABC News, Paul Harvey, and Rush. KSCJ also shrunk its local programming from 5 hours to 3. It just must be too expensive to run a good radio station anymore. I am in Kansas City, and I am tellin ya I love listening to local talk. KMNS is all sports with the exception of Imus and Glen Beck. No local news now except KSCJ. Thanks for giving up Clear Channel! Great operation you all run over there. Competition is good!

CC has been switching stations to Spanish, but they've tended to be FMs in much larger markets. A few years ago, there was some Spanish programs on the weekend on KSCJ and KWSL, but I haven't heard them in quite some time.

Actually it's a bit more than that... from 8 to 5 hours. Now local programming only from 6-11am, dropping the local from 1-2 and 5-7.

I can maybe see keeping Imus, he is on some other sports stations, but why Beck?

KSCJ should be happy. Since the first of the month, they've gotten ABC back, Paul Harvey back, Rush Limbaugh back, and are back to having the only local news operation. And their FM station is back to being #1.

I wonder how Imus does in the ratings. They really should consider dropping Imus and carrying FSR's Steve Czaban from 5-8 am. He is the best thing FSR has to offer.
