SIP Based Call In Phone System

Does anybody make such a beast?

Something along the lines of a Comrex STAC, but SIP based and not POTS based. . .

Thanks for introducing me to a new terminology. Is it fair to say that SIP is something like SKYPE and a little bit kin to the VOIP efforts?

Do you have any idea of the size of the SIP "customer" base. If you equip a radio station and Internet Streaming operation with SIP ability.... who will be your listeners who can call in? I'm going to make a wild guess and assume that most user of SIP would be of the "techie" mentality... which might skew, for better or worse" the kind of calls and callers you would get.

If you want a single line setup most IP codecs support SIP.

Check with your codec supplier, if their codec supports the evolving Euro standard N/ACIP (Audio COntribution over IP) standard it will interoperate with Internet callers.

For example we have this with most of the APTcodec line

Telos has announced a multi-line system planned. Their new Z/IP codecs support N/ACIP

Comrex has a 2 line (1 pots and 1 SIP) system

Tieline has announced they plan N/ACIP compatibilit but I don't know where they stand at the moment.

I think what he is asking for is a replacement for STAC/Telos that will bring in multiple VOIP channels and work with VOIP PBX's.

I'd love for someone to come up with one. We switched to a VOIP phone system. Much cheaper than POTS. However, you basically have to cobble your own interface to get the audio on air... such as back to pulling audio out of the phone and into a hybrid.

What about running a free PBX system (trixbox) on a pc in the studio with a breakout card (pci card). You could couple the PBX with SIP trunking with the existing VOIP PBX system or with a SIP provider. Just a thought.

Grandstream makes an 8 port FXS ATA that could work. . .

We switched over to a VOIP based system hosted by our ISP on an asterisk server a while back and we're currently using a Grandstream deskset with the headset interface tied into our board. It works *ok*. . isolation with a mix minus feed is actually good, but the headset jack is junk. Conferencing in callers with a guest is a pain for most people.

I got to use a STAC during the Homelessness Marathon program carried on Pacifica a couple of years ago and loved its ease of use.

I'll check out that RadioPhone product. . :)
