Sir Mix-A-Lot on Fresh 102.7?

I was scanning the dial and heard Baby Got Back last Saturday on Fresh. Seems that their weekend talent, Kristin is hosting "Saturday Night 90's." Also heard Crystal Waters, Montell Jordan, No Doubt and Smashing Pumpkins. Interesting mix! I'm surprised that no one else mentioned it. I wonder if this is the start of more loosening of the format?

Nothing too unusual about this....Lite FM has been known to play J-Lo, Pink and Shaggy in its regular rotation, not even exclusively on Saturday nights. It doesn't seem to have hurt them much even though it does feel a bit out of place.

If that's what you've heard on Fresh 102.7 WWFS then this sounds like a station that's either up for a format change or testing the waters, because to hear "Baby Got Back" which is mainstream Hip Hop Lite-FM has only played mild rap.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

I don't see what is so different about this from what Lite FM has been doing for years. "Baby Got Back" on a Saturday night specialty show is not much more jarring than hearing Shaggy in the middle of the day on Lite FM.

This is probably the first time "Baby Got Back" was heard on 102.7 in New York since the O&A show... ;D

So how long before Mix 1027 NY's Classic Dance Hits return if they want to try to go after KTU again? Classic Dance was a good format on 1027 in my opinion.

Not happening.

I also thought Mix 102.7 sounded good, but it had worse numbers than Fresh while trying to reach the same demo. Fresh may have plateaued but it's not doing too badly, and it's pretty low-maintenance to run. As far as I'm concerned, "freshening" up their playlist is also a good move, and it's what's kept other AC stations like Lite FM in a strong position after all these years. Fresh isn't going anywhere.
