Sirius 36 The Beat Re-defining Dance

In the last couple of days they have started playing Rihanna - S.O.S. Pink - Stupid GirlsShakira - Hips Don't Lie All of which have been the regular version and not a dance mix. I guess I can see how S.O.S. is more a dance song and maybe Pink but Shakira?

I wouldn't blink an eye over this sort of programming for a terrestrial dance station, but I'm surprised that it's coming from a satellite channel which could afford to be more niched. If a satellite listener doesn't like the song on one channel, then they'll usually jump to another satellite channel for a while. Since the satellite companies rely on mainly subscription revenue, there's no fear of retaining or losing listeners between channels. On the other hand, terrestrial stations sometimes need songs that cross over to their format to encourage more sampling and be more mass appeal. JAMMIN'DOWN JDJoe A. DelfinJamTraxx Media

I think the Shakira track fits in.If anything, I would question the Pink track.

Wow, this is pretty sad. Not as if these non-remixed tunes are bad, just not on a dance station. Are they spinning any hip-hop tracks as well?

Yes... play this song in any bar where there are hot women.. and they go crazy over it.. at least down here in Miami.
Miami is in a world of its own. I know because I used to live there.

No hip-hop. I actually don't mind hearing the un-remixed Rihanna. Other then that it needs to stop. The odd thing it is ONLY certain songs by the artists they are playing the original versions of. They are still playing the remix to Natasha Bedingfield's "These Words" and her new song which I can't remember the name of. It's only "Unwritten" they are playing the original. Same with Kelly Clarkson, they are playing the remix to "Walk Away" but playing the original "Since U Been Gone." I actually like all three original songs, but "Since U Been Gone" and "Unwritten" cannot be classified as dance IMO. Honestly though, the remixes they were playing to all three songs they are now playing the originals of SUCKED. I would kind of rather hear the originals then remixes....but if I had a choice I would rather hear neither on a "dance" station. The Pink song strikes me as odd. They just started playing a remix to that no more then a week or so ago (it was good, too), and they already dropped it for the original? The good news is The Beat debuted a new show that will air every Friday night at 7PM by DJ Riddler. Caught it last night and it was great...I actually skipped listening to the Essential Selection on BBC Radio 1 for an hour (I almost never miss that!)

You guys should have XM Radio (BPM XM-81) plays better dance hits than Sirius ;)
BPM nearly puts me to sleep, it's a boring radio station. My friend has XM, and BPM plays a lot of just crap dance music. Not to mention Area 33 and BBC Radio 1 have awesome mixshows...I'm not dropping Sirius anytime soon.
