SIRIUS 70'S CHANNEL

After listening to this horrible Sirius 70's channel for the past couple of years, I finally gave up on the bad dj's that talk too much about nothing a person over the age of 20 wants to hear, way too many interuptions between the songs, a bad, clunky mix of classic rock and disco music, and pop music that is noticibly missing from the music line-up.

I have found the BEST programmed 70's channel ever. XM. Check it out...I didn't know it sounded this good...no one told me and I just never thought to check it out. It's worth every penny. No stupid old DJ's trying to sound hip and relevent with sound effects and fake laugh tracks. Instead they have "people" that talk maybe once or twice per hour. They sound like a real human being, not late 70's CHR DJ's.

The music is UNBELIEVABLE!!! We've been listening ALL weekend and have yet to hear the same song twice. We hosted a dinner party for about 30 people on Saturday evening and EVERYONE was commenting on the music. The OH WOW factor is off the scale. One great song after another. I didn't think a station could sound so good....

Goodbye Girl David Gates
Ruby Red Dress, Helen Reddy
Wild Wood Weed, Jim Stafford
(I've Been) Seaching So Long, Chicago
Space Race, Billy Preston
Evergreen, Barbra Strisand
I hear you Knocking, Dave Edmunds
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, Jim Croce
Heartbeat, It's a Lovebeat, The DeFranco Family
Afternoon Delight, Starland Vocal Band
Love is Alive, Gary Wright
Baby, I love your way, Peter Frampton
Shake Your Booty, KC and the Sunshine Band
Half the Way, Chrystal Gayle
Kong, Dickie Goodman (yes, Kong)
You are so Beautiful, Joe Cocker
Lyin Eyes, Eagles
You're 16, Ringo Starr
The Logical Song, Supertramp

the list goes on and on of great 70's songs that bring back great memories. Good Job XM!!!!

Actually that's what 70s radio sounded like! The guys on Sirius Totally 70s do a great job, and they keep the music going. They talk about 4 to 5 times an hour and aren't long winded at all. The jocks, with the exception
to Barry "Greg Brady" Williams, come from NY and LA radio. Magic Matt Alan the morning dude worked in both those markets on Z100 and KIIS, JJ Walker aka Spyder Harrison, was at Z100 NY in the 80s and voice tracks from his home studio in Miami. The other talk you hear is the imaging done by Shadoe Stevens. They play far deeper cuts than XM 70s, while keeping the hits going as well.
I grew up listening to radio in the 70s and I think Sirius does
a better job at bringing the old sound back than XM. Of course that's just my opinion! By the way Totally 70s on Sirius is one of the top 3 channels listened to on Sirius, so someone's listening!!

I agree 100%!!! Sirius hands down beats XM 70'shannel... Even voice tracked it is still fun to listen to totally 70's... My fave is the "Jukebox From Hell"... I think what would help them out a lot is to have some fun themed weekend stuff like an all JFH weekend, Forgotten seventies weekend, etc, etc... That would really open things up and really add some sizzle to Totally 70's JMO... CC1

"Jukebox From Hell" is interesting to listen to. I also agree they should have a themed weekend.

As far as DJ's, JJ and Matt are great! The Brady kid should not be in Radio.

Your right on Barry Williams, but he's there for obvious reasons. A hit TV show in the 70s!

I agree, the playlists on Sirius Totally 70s is better than XM, and the jocks are much more entertaining, even dull Barry Williams aka Greg BRady has improved the last couple years. Every song the above poster listed on XM is played on Sirius, and it is far from being just classic rock and disco. You can get country/pop/soul/rock and yes disco, all in a great mix, which was the 70s.

Can all of the replies on this thread be any more obvious that these are Sirius employees? Funny.

XM 70's creams Sirius 70's! Too many friends of mine OUTSIDE of the business are all switching over because we are all tired of the "Z100...who cares" jocks who sound sadly out of touch making fools of themselves and interupting the music. This is 2007....people DON'T care about "DJ's" and geeky radio imaging...ESPECIALLY on gold based stations. Maybe on youth driven formats such as CHR, but they have to be connected. These horrible Sirius 70's jocks all sound "affected". (i.e. hey...it'sh magic matt alan on SHiriush sheventiesh and I'm in the shtudio doin the Hushel with ya...hang on for Donna Shummer and after that it'sh The Village People and then hang on....Alesha Bridgesh and Patrishe Rushen on the way ash well. (sfx of tin cans falling and yelling) hold on...I think a bunch of other dishco hitsh just fell on me...I'll play them ash well!!! weeeee!!! Adults DON'T connect with lost, unprepared breaks like that. And that's about all the dj's can come up with.

If you just had to talk, the only thing adults would want to hear is local talk. If you can't give them that, then get these clowns off the air and play the hits. (ALL of them...not just disco) If you need ideas on good music, tune in XM for some ideas...

Sirius needs to stop thinking about how they are going to make fellow radio friends impressed and start thinking about the subscriber or more will defect to XM. I know that for a fact. If it's true that Sirius 70's is the third biggest station as suggested above, then Sirius will go broke. Oh wait a minute, they already are....

Stop Defending BAD radio!!!

Sirius employee? LOL thats a laugh!! I teach in a public school- pretty far from being an employee of Sirius! And are you an XM employee? Its great you prefer XM 70s to Sirius, no problem, its all a matter of personal taste and opinion- no one is right or wrong. You dont care fro the jocks, so what? For a long time XM's 70 channel sounded like an ipod....some people like personality. some dont- who cares? I am glad there is a choice, no one service can appeal to all people. And as far as Sirius going broke, let me know when XM turns a profit, ok? Both services are in debt and to say I only lost 50 million compared to your 90 million, doesnt make either one an example of a money maker!

AMEN JOE!!! Well Put!!! As for me I am not a Sirius employee just somebody who not only worked in broadcasting, but has had the chance to hear both services and for my taste I ride with the BIG DOG!!! CC1

Look, if you like 70s music and no dj talk, then you can listen to mp3's on your Ipod, Mp3 player or computer.
why pay a monthly fee for XM? But if you like 70s music and the corny (yes I'll admit it's corny!) Dj banter.
then Sirius has that!

Exactly, the DJ is what makes the difference to me. I own over 2K CDs. I create playlists on my Windows Media player according to my moods - updated or rotated monthly. People have commented that I have six commercial-free radio stations at will (AOR, Alt. Rock, AAA, Classic Dance, Classic Soul, and 70's). However, I do enjoy listening to the DJs on Sirius. XM has less DJs but a wider playlist. Neither service is perfect.

I heard "Joanne" by Michael Nesmith" on XM this past weekend. Haven't heard that since it was on the radio in the early 70's. I think they go a little "deeper" on the weekend. GOOD STUFF!

I also heard the XM 70's PD on the air this weekend as well. Didn't catch his name, but HE was just as good as a jock as he is a PD. Ton's of info. Like how Pure Prairie League got their name from an old movie about women who stopped drinking and were known as the "Pure Prairie League" etc...so much relevence to the talk on XM. I have fallin in love with that channel.

Who is the PD anyway? I would love to reach out to him and tell him what a fabulous job he is doing there.

AND....

I will admit. If you like heeping helpings of disco and a lot of dj banter about nothing, then Sirius is not that bad. Occasionally I will listen until my subscription runs out in a few months. But the whole time I'm listening, I'll be wondering what am I missing on XM 70's......

From what I've heard listening to Xm 70s you're not missing a thing!!

Brett
